As you know (and thanks for the support!) I'm battling a really first-time bout of IBS, and it sucks

However, when I have all my other symptoms under control, I get a dull pain in my rectum.

Is it possable I bruised something by straining so hard over the past couple weeks? Has anyone ever experienced this? Could it be a hemmerhoid (I've had two digital exams, and that doesn't hurt especially....)......?

Is this a chronic thing or something that's been brought on by straining / the way I sit? Is there anything I can do to speed up the recovery, if there is one?

Sorry for the excessive threads, but this is so much different than any other part of what I'm going through, I didn't quite want to tie it in.

It could possibly be hemmhroids or it could just be the rectal muscles. I get all kind of crazy rectal symptoms... I just not too long ago posted a thread on rectal spasms (those seem to be the worse) for me. You rectum might be "tired" as well from being constipated so its a bit sore.

so what would you advice be, beyond baths and not straing needlessly? i take it this is not a standard symptom of IBS?

and could I have a hemmerhoid without extra pain during stool / rectal exam? could they have not felt it in a digtial exam?

seems wierd to me that it seems to be consistantly worse at night; i wonder if it's from sitting on my coccaxel bones all day.....

If you are straining, you may need to take a stool softener. Straining may cause you worse problems in the long run, rectal prolapse is a big concern. Baths are great... I also take my symax for the pain. Have you tried good ole' tylenol for the pain?

Hemmhroids can hurt anytime w/ or w/out stool. I think that hemmies aren't always detected because the swelling can go down when they are not flaring.

Hope this helps a little :)

i think i may in fact have a hemmerhoid! to me this is good news, because it's common, easy to treat, good prognosis, and may in fact be responsible for more of my discomfort than I've realized!

I see a small red swelling to the lower left of my ass. it seems to cause some pain, especially while sitting, and one of my friends who had a hemmerhoid said it gave him tenesmus, even though he doesn't have IBS.

I definatly have IBS, but it would be wonderful if some prep-h helps with some of this! I'm off to the 24hour store to get some!

more reading makes me think this isn't a hemmorhoid :-/

It's so bizarre, though, it's sort of just a very minor pain during the day, and then by 11 or 11:30 PM it's very severe, makes it hard to sleep
can anyone relate? or is this less IBS and more like a sacral nerve thing?

This must be so confusing for you, spengler. I'm sorry. It sounds like you could have a hemmie... but maybe you should call the doc. Whatever it is it is bugging you so you should be seen.
Did you get the Preperation-H? Did it give you any relief?

I agree with Lil. I think that you need to get that checked out... it sounds like it could be a number of things... hemmies are right outside the anus (external) or in the anus (internal). What you are describing sounds like its not in that area.
