I was just wondering if anyone else is on this and how expensive it is? I don't have insurance and have had to pay everything out of pocket!!!
The GI that I saw sent me a letter stating that he thought that I had Functional Abdominal Pain and that I should take Zelnorm. He said that it decreases the pain signals rising. Well My pcp says that I have Ibs or diverticulitis! I am so confused! I still have pain, nausea, constipation/small traces of blood, bloating that has not gone away!!!
I have also had pain in RUQ that really hits hard sometimes and goes thru to my back! I wondered if this is Gallbladder???? Also have red bumps that are on my stomach and back???? My tongue has big red/white bumps at the back of it and can feel it down my throat.Itchy skin as well! Help please! I am falling apart!!
Just soooooo frustrated with doctors!

Hi Flower Lady,
I am on Zelnorm but I have insurance. I pay $40 for a 1 month supply. If I remember correctly (from the 1st time I got it, my insurance then didn't cover it) it was $80 or $90. This stuff is expensive! Well, I am also pretty sure the price varies depending where you are in the world; even if you are in the US (like me) every state, city and pharmacy are differenct.
In the long run, your best bet is to search the net for health insurance. I have insurance and I still spent close to $3K getting an IBS diagnosis.
Are you taking probiotics? If your tongue and throat are irritated it could be related to your guts. I'm sure it can be any number of things but you might want to try something OTC to see if it helps. Could you have Thrush (sp?)? Probiotics are fabulous for combating a yeast overgrowth (works great for women with it in their nether regions).
If you are suspecting gallbladder problems you should have an ultra sound and a hida scan. Do you have bile, burning, or yellow BMs? Those can all be signs of GB problems.
Hope you feel better soon... hang in there!

Hi Lil! Thank you for your post. What are probiotics? Not sure.
What kinda burning do you mean? I don't have yellow stools.

Hi Sandi,
Probiotics are "good" bacteria which are needed for healthy intestinal function. They combat the bad bacteria that get into our intestines. You can find the good bacteria in yogurt or as a supplement. Here is a site with some info: http://www.usprobiotics.org/
Burning as in, does it burn when you poo? That can be a sign of too much bile (bad gallbladder).
