I really need some help or advice, I'm suffering badly.  For the past couple of days, I have had the worse pain in my right side - just under my ribs down my side.  It's not my appendix (gone when I was 13), and it's not my gallbladder (I just went through a bunch of tests to r/o gb issues).

I have the worst bloating, no real gas and the feeling like I need to go.  Normally, since I have IBS-C, I would think I'm just constipated and wait for it to work it's way through.  It's nothing like that.  I really don't even know how to describe the pain, but when I massage my belly (I do that when I'm constipated), it just hurts and feels sore.  Last night the pain was so bad, that sleeping on my stomach (which I never do) actually helped...go figure.  I could feel a  "roll" in my intestines where it was hurting.  That's what feel when I'm constipated, but I haven't eaten enough in the past few days...Unfortunately, this has set off a flare of my arthritis (which happens) so I'm just a miserable mess.

I've taken my lactulose 2 days now, nothing has happened.  I've been drinking more water (I drink alot to start with), but I really can't eat much.  My stomach feels yucky, but doesn't hurt.  I don't have heartburn so antacids aren't helping either.

I really don't want to call my doctor to tell him I have a side ache and my appointment with the Gastro is not until the end of February.  I'm wondering, do you think something might be stuck, you know, not able to get through?

Thanks for any advice, help, whatever.

I had a bunch of tests to rule out my gall bladder and they all came up negative. 5 years later, after continuing to have the exact same problems continuously, they finally took the thing out. Bad gall bladders don't always show up on the first set of tests. Or the second set of tests, for that matter. But one thing about bad ball bladders is they give you diarrhea and/or vomiting. The only people I know of that didn't have either were asymptomatic--they had stones or sludge but nothing ever caused them to hurt or get sick and they only found out about it by accident.

If you have not had a bowel movement in more than two days, then I would contact a doctor about this. You may indeed have a blockage. At the very least they need to find out why you are not moving your stools along. You can't wait a month to get help with this. If you can't get in to see your doctor, then I would go to the E.R. so that someone can get you an ultrasound ordered and look to see if you have a blockage there.

If you are passing stools okay but still hurting so much you can't function, then you should still see your doctor and get him to prescribe you some sort of anti-apsmodic or pain pill or maybe even a mild muscle relaxer to see if you can't get the pain calmed down some. You may can also nag him into nagging a G.I. to see you sooner. Doctors will do favors for each other and bump people up the waiting list.

You may want to think about taking an OTC stool softener. See if you feel any better after passing stool.
I wish I had more advice to give about this, sorry. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Take care.
