so realistically, is gas good?
i mean when i belch or pass, i feel better. so is the relieving of gas a good sign? i mean it is normal right? so is it healthy, or what?
despite the social stigma of it being rude, or associated with men, is it a sign of a healthy system? or just the opposite?
(my reasoning is this, i just did an intense yoga workout and i passed a lot, but so do others during yoga, and yoga is great for the body, so relieving gas must be too, right?!!) tongue
thanks!!!

(just for the record i never used to fart until my colonoscopy, prior to it i was solely a belcher!! i like farts, i think they are fun!)
what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

LOL... bunnybabe :)

Passing gas either end is way much better on you than keeping it in hands down!!! I know what you mean by feeling better... I get really nauseous with excess gas both in my stomach and my intestines so when I can get rid of it, I feel like a new woman!! My son has told all his friends that I am the champion burper (what a proud woman I am LOL) I still can't fart in front of my husband even after 15 years but I will say that I had a few get away from me but my hubby is such a good sport. Plus HE really can't say anything.

farts may be fun, but never trust them because a harmless fart can often be a shameful shart, LOL!

I usually do a google search on things like this, you find some interesting facts on bodily funcitons when you type in things like "fart" into search engines. :)

Of course farting is a natural biological function, too much farting though, means there's something more then it being natural, then again some peeps for some or no reason are just farty....I'm gonna google farts now, I'll let you know if I come across anything interesting.

I might have to use the correct term to get any serious info on farts though, that being flatulence, that word kinda takes the fun out of it.

:)

7Lil,

If you read my link, it talks about where a fart goes when you hold it in :)

So I read pretty much everything on that link. It's a lot of info! Good stuff.
But, I still don't know what happens to the gas when you take something for it (i.e Gas-X). Does it just dissolve away?

Lil, have you ever seen the commercials for Gas-X pills (at least they used to have them on t.v., but I don't have t.v. anymore)? Basically they have this clear tube of fizz--kind of like a coke with head on it--and they squeeze out a capsule and it kills the fizz. (Incidently, if you stir the head on your coke with your finger, that will instantly reduce a lot of it). In the case of cokes, the fizz is gas trapped in a thin bubble of liquid. Pop the bubble and the gas escapes. I don't know about the inner workings of the intestines, but I'm guessing we get internal bubbles of gas in there. There's liquid in there and we know gas can get trapped in exactly one location because it causes a sudden sharp pain. And it can move, just like a bubble sliding down the side of a glass. I'm guessing the Gas-X just has a chemical in it that pops the bubble so that the gas can roam free through your guts and come out when you fart, belch or just have a bowel movement. It may even can be absorbed once it's free of the bubble, I don't know. But I do know we "consume" air everytime we eat, so it's not unusal to have gas in the digestive tract; it's when it gets in that bubble or whatever it is that causes us pain that's bad.

Thanks, Keri! Yes, now that you mention it I do remember those commericials. Haven't seen them in years though. That Gas-X really worked for me yesterday. I was a little nervous sitting in my cube at work with loads of gas.

When I had my gall bladder problems, my gas would get trapped and wouldn't come out and boy, would I have loved to have been able to burp or fart or anything. Luckily after I got the gall bladder out, I started being able to poot again, although not as much as when I was younger. And luckily they are much more likely to be silent and odorless, which means I can pass gas around other people--namely the fiance--without embarrassment. Not that he keeps his silent, especially when he's been in the sugar alcohols. But, you know, more pressure for women to have less bodily functions than men. We're not supposed to scratch ourselves in inappropriate places either, which isn't fair since we have twice as many inappropriate places as men and sometimes my boobs just get an itch!

too funny, once in a while i get that sudden itch on a boob thing too.  It was happening yesterday actually was driving me crazy.  I used to not fart in front of my husband for the longest time, but now after 13 years.   It doesn't seem to bother me at all.  I have gas issues myself with burping and farting.  I can't drink carbinated drinks for anything without burping even water will make me burp.  So I've stayed clear of the soda pop for a while now.  He just laughs along with me.  he can't talk any smack about it either he farts too sometimes his are smelly lol.  Still some days I have delt with way more gas than I care to admit.  It's like if anyone were to light a match around me I might go up in flames.  Its definately better to let it out than hold it in.

I have tonnes of gas too, but nothing I take will get rid of it anymore. I used to take one Gas-X, and walla.. it was gone. Now.. nothing helps, AND the gas is a lot worse. I get really bad gas pains and bloating which keep me up till all hours cuz it hurts so much! I never had any gas problems until I had my gallbladder removed. Sometimes I get so bloated and in pain because of all the air I cannot get rid of.. I jump, I walk, I roll... anything to try to get rid of it? I would be MOST thankful if anyone had any advice on how to make this problem "disappear". Thanks!! :)
