First, I want to say Im feeling a lt better (Knock on wood). Not sure if its the increase in fiber or the Citrical or the 2 mg Xanax three times a day.
Im  still concerned that I  have that dull pain on the lower  right side of in my groin and my stools are still mostly yellow, and the more frequint heart burn. (Going to make another appointment with my GI Doc to discuss this again)
But at least Ive been able to eat pizza, and drink beer and coffie again.  :-)
Sorry for rambling on,
My queston is that Ive seen advertised on tv  Dannon (Activia) that is supose to help with digestion after two weeks of use.
Whats peoples input on this?
Heres the link.
Thanks
Lenny

i just started taking it about three days ago. at first i got some bloating from the bacteria but now my system seems to have adjusted beter to it. once a day i take it and it is not bad. i think i will give it a try for a while long term. thing is though, i cant take the other probitos b/c they are too strong for me and my system. the stuff you get from the health food store is way to powerful for my system so maybe this is a good compromise

I've seen those Dannon Activia commercials too and I think I'm going to try it. It can't hurt.
Lenny, if you try it please keep us posted.
Missie, please keep posting on how it is working (especially after the 2 weeks).
Thanks!

Hi there,

I was just passing through and found this thread, I'm usually on the UC forum.

Anyway the reason I'm replying is because the other day I heard on the TV (can't remember the program sorry) that the Dannon Activia have proved to be helpful for IBS sufferers, anyway as you are discussing it, I just thought I'd jump right in and tell you.

Good luck with it.

Take care

Dave

Seems to be real popular at my store.  I went to get some and there were 2 flavors left - blueberry (which I got) and prune!  I'm sure curious to see how this works.  I start tomorrow.

I just saw one tv ad last night and decided to try it...

i like the taste, i have mixed berry and i was pleased there were a few fruit peices in it.

Good point, bunny. What happens after 2 weeks? I went to the Dannon Activa site and it doesn't say. Like we hear in the commercials... Incorporate it into your daily diet for 2 weeks.
Then what!?!

I wasn under the impression that when people are using probioitcs to treat IBS they take them for at least a month?

Is this product being touted for normal people or for people with intestinal problems? Might be that people with problems will want to eat it for longer than that.

When I was eating yogurt for my guts (the calcium more than the probioitics), I think I needed about 4 weeks' worth to get straightened back out. Of course I got tired of the yogurt and ended up switching to calcium supplements.

While it does taste good, I have noticed that this stuff is tying me in knots. I've had the absolute worst stomach cramps from eating this (today is day 4). It's not gas per se, not really sure what's going on. I do know that I'm just as constipated as before, I'm awfully bloated and nothing is happening. I think I'm not going to continue this and perhaps just go back to my regular yogurt that has a different and perhaps milder probiotic.

Just my thoughts.

I have to say, Ive been feeling 110% better for the last 2 weeks. I had my first Activia lastnight with dinner. Last night and to day was not a great day, not horible but my morning BM was "different""more than normal" hard to explain. I did eat more than I should have. I allso had a bad head ache (still do) all day.
Dont know if it was the Activa or not but Im not taking any more till next week. I want my weekend to be fairly good.

I bought Strawberry and Vanilla a few days ago. Tonight I had my first one (strawberry) - it was good. I just hope it doesn't cause me "problems."
Anyone have any updates on this stuff?

Isn't this the same microorganisms that are in "live culture" yougurts?
I've noticed (and so has my son), that we get cramps with live culture yogurt.

well i have gotten worse, but my GI said it is a bacterial relapse and yogurt is great for the gut (unless specifically for you it is not... but in general he meant) so i am continuing on...
i am going to keep at it, but i did develope more headaches, cramping and lots of loose poops--but then again i have relapsed, apparently i didn't kill all the bad stuff the first go around... i am on an antibiotic so who knows.

i still think the idea is shady, putting a time limit on a food... and then what... and on the advertisments it sounds like it is for healthy people, but then again the chick who is bloated on the couch is ready for a night on the town at the end of the commercial-- i have no clue. i think us IBSers just want SOMEONE out there to cure us!

i also think it is a little shady that the containers are so tiny, and that it doesn't contain "live" cultures, but it "meets the criteria for live and active cultures"... it contains active ones, but i thought in order to do any good they needed to be alive also...

oh well, i guess i will keep buying baby wipes for a while longer...

Oh bunny, I'm sorry. I feel your skepticism. Hang in there girl...

First time eating the stuff I did OK. My guts were making some noises but no D. I'll continue this stuff (along with my other probiotics) and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for posting your experiences with this.

Hi!

I've been on this stuff for about 16 days and I was doing rather well until today. I think I ate something that kicked off my GERD. That's the problem with having IBS AND GERD!! I can never tell which one is which......they both have about the same symptoms, for me anyway. I'm having a horrible attack right now and 3 Imodium later and 6 pepto, I'm doing a little better. I haven't eaten my yogurt for today but I hope to get it in sometime before this evening! I will continue to take it. It never did cause me to have an attack. I'm pretty positive it was something else that caused it. I was doing so well that maybe this was just a "fluke".

Hope this helps and good luck to all!
Michelle :)

I was just doing some research on activia because I have been having problems with it. So just to let you know that if your like me and did not have any problems before taking Activia, then do not take it. nono I used to be regular almost every day and started taking it because my boyfiend has IBS and I wanted to support him. We took it for a total of 1 1/2 months. He feels great, I havent had a regular BM since two days after taking it. I haven't eaten any since about three weeks ago, and I still feel like yuck sad (stomach pains, diarreah then constapation. It's been horrible. At least my boyfriend is feeling good. yeah

I have IBS-D, and if I eat Activia every day, it really constipates me.
I have the feeling that different kinds of good bacteria respond differently in our guts. And we all probably respond differently from each other with the different bacterias!
I just don't understand why it seems to be hard to take the good bacteria, when its supposed to be so good for us. I wonder if its just us people with IBS that seem to have trouble with it??

Hi Irok, welcome to HW. :-)
Are you lactose intolerant? I wonder if you could have an allergy to some ingredient in the yogurt.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Well I'm not lactose intolerant, I LOVE milk. I have eaten yougurt before and never had this problem. Maybe there is something extra in Activia that I'm allergic to, but I have no known food allergies. I'm not sure what happened with my digestive system. I just hope I end up feeling better soon cause the stomach cramps are horrible (lower stomach) and my BM's are still not normal. I'm going to be going to the doctor for a check up within the month and will post the results. sad

I post on crohns but wanted to add that I eat this every day and had MUCH more formed BM's. Im not sure if it is crohns remission or if it is the yogurt but I am sticking with it!
