Along with barely being able to eat or drink, I can't sleep.   My pain gets worse when I lay down.   I can usually fall asleep in the evening but within 2 hours I wake up with that hard deep cramp that just won't let go.   I usually get up 2 - 3 times a night with pain and/ or attempts at a BM.  In the last couple of months I've added nausea to my bag of tricks, as well as extreme fatigue.   I hurt if I eat and I hurt if I don't eat.   I've had this all my life but in the last 15 years it has gotten worse and worse and worse.   Two colonoscopys, a cat scan, Zelnorm, fiber, yoga, water water water, diets with and without whatever.  If I could just sleep sometime I could at least have peace then.
I have not tried probiotics, in fact, just today heard the word.   Whatever....here I go.

hey, big hugs to you!

try making your self a fort of pillows and a heating pad. i found that when my cramps were really bad i would allow my body to just conform to a mountain of pillows. sometimes the gentle pressure actually helps. heat is also a soother...
could you try sleeping sitting up?
i am so sorry, are you on any pain meds? maybe you should be...

take care of yourself! (but do try to get some nourishment in you!)
what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

Hi cashnbecky,
Welcome to HealingWell. :-)
Have you spoken to your doctor about antispasmodics? What about a heating pad to soothe the pain? Have you had your gallbladder checked?
Yes, definitely try probiotics. They won't cure you but they sure will help with regular intestinal function.
Take care.

Hi cashnbecky,

I'm truly sorry you are suffering so much, I can't say I know exactly what you are going through as I have UC but I can certainly relate to the night pains and insomnia. I know you say you have difficulty eating and drinking, but one tip I have for sleeping is to drink Camomile tea, I never thought it would work for me especially as it seemed it was always the pains that were keeping me awake, but I got a pleasant surprise when I tried it and slept like a baby.

I wish you luck.

I'm on an anti spasmodic now.   I take it as needed.   The time release version of it made me dry as dust and I started coughing a lot.   The anti spasmodic worked like a miracle for a whoe week!!!!  Now I take it sometimes but not getting much result.
I'm sitting here with a heating pad now as well as a cup of peppermint tea.   I don't sleep with a heating pad because of hot flashes and night sweats.
I had my gall bladder checked by a specialist before my hysterectomy in 2003.   Clean bill of health there.
I sleep with pillows all around me.   It's a mess because I have to turn over a lot due to the pain.   I call it the "alligator roll".   In the morning the covers are a mess.  Bunny, if I could sleep like a horse I'd be really really happy.   But I can't.
I'm eating a small bowl of steamed carrots (organic have the best flavor).   Soluble fiber you know.   My husband is really good at researching what I can eat.   We eat mostly organic vegetables and have slowly switched over to mostly organic meats.   But...we also love pizza, burgers and booze and I have an out of control sweet tooth.  Sometimes I just go crazy and go for the bad stuff.
I haven't tried pain meds or anti anxiety meds but I think I'll ask my gastro guy for some.

Hi cash. I'm really sorry to hear about your pain. My pain is on my right side and is pretty consistently there. Have you been tested for fructose intolerance? You mentioned a sweet tooth and fructose was the first thing that came to mind.

My gall bladder came up as being fine the first two hidascans I had. Five years later it finally showed up bad; I had lived with gall bladder attacks all that time. If you have all the symptoms of a bad gall bladder, then it probably is a bad gall bladder, regardless of what the tests may or may not show. I don't know what your other symptoms are, so I can't say whether it sounds like you have a bad one or not, but not being able to lay down and getting attacks in the middle of the night are two symtoms. I learned to sleep sitting up.

No I haven't been tested for fructose intolerance so far. I'll put that on the list although I really don't want to know the results of that one. I'm sure I already know. According to Heather Van Vourous' cookbook, sugar isn't a trigger in itself.

Keriamom, I'll take your advice to heart and keep an eye on the gall bladder. I guess it wouldn't hurt to follow up on the check up I had in 2003. Sometimes it feels like torture just to lay down and try to get comfortable.
