How would one slowly add fiber to your diet?  Would benefiber benefit?

You would just do a little at a time. You ideally want to work yourself up to about 30 grams which is the RDV (you also get most of that from food so don't think 30 grams of supplements) however you will be miserable if you did that all at once. I have heard people that get relief from benefiber. I personally never tried it. I take the Metamucil supplements however fiber is fiber any way you can get it.

I use prodiem, it says take 2 but I find one tab works fine for me...of course with any added fibre your body will have to adjust so you can expect some extra bloating and gas, I had extra of this for 3 month and after that I now have no bloating and very little gas.

hey terps, are you sure it wasn't just coincidence? After all having IBD and even IBS calls for trips for D often and it does take some time for benefibre and such to build and and work, it doesn't happen quickly but generally sticking with it should show improvements.

take care

pretty sure it wasnt a coincidence because when I was reading posts on why to use benefiber they said that you might have sandy like bowel movements for a while until you get used to it... well it felt like I was crappy sandy water! Good to see you on a different board!

I had that same thing happen to me the 1st (and only) time I took Citrucel. Now I stick to popping Metamucil pills (sporatically - I can't always remember them).
Take care.

FYI... I just read an article where they currently have clinical trials going on with fiber. Insoluable vs. soluable vs. placebo and the focus is on IBS patients. I will be very curious to hear to results and when I find them out, I'll post them.
