Hello I am new and I HAVE IBS "0)

I have had it for 13 years I am 27 now.. I had my gallbladder removed in OCT and since then I have not been the same
it seems my IBS is way worse..  I am in so much pain in my lower belly. It shoots into my hips it feels like and part way to my lower back. I have had blood test 3 uppers and lower belly cat scans and other tests lol... They never find anything and sometimes I will get such bad nausea it will wake me up from a dead sleep.. That's a problem but right now and the past few months ( Its really bad a week after my period )

But the past 3 weeks It just has NOT STOPPED at all.. And today I am having problems going to the bath room and that hardly ever happens its mostly feels like I go to much lol. It feels like someone is pushing on my lower belly from the inside LOL That's how bloated I feel and have been for weeks.. Off and on.

But I could even handle that its the pain, Sharp in my lower belly on both the right and the left off to the sides and I feel it in my hips and tail bone/ lower back. It kinda feels like an overran cysts on BOTH sides ( witch I have had ) but I was checked for that with a pap and belly CT and blood work.. I was also checked for cancer so I am very upset and kinda afraid and feeling alone. God I am so embarrassed but I have to say lol ( when I pass gas sometimes the presser and pain will let up ) You know people with IBS spell relief  F-A-R-T LOL sorry just trying to be a little funny. A little IBS humor HEHE

Ok back to me lol.. I have been having a LOT of family problems and MAJOR stress do you think that could be why I am in more pain then most times?
( NOT that being a women does not cause stress all by itself :+0 ) Does anyone get bad bad lower belly pain? Because what you say back to me LOL I am a Hypochondriac

Thanks so much for reading
HUGS
Diana

Hi Diana,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
I'm sorry you are in so much pain, but I'm glad you found this site. There are a great bunch of folks here.
Are you taking any medication and/or supplements? My first thought is an anti-spasmodic and maybe some Gas-X. Your pain can be your colon spasming but it can also be gas - or a combination of both.
Have you been tested for Celiacs? Sometimes people with a wheat intolerance can get pain, bloating and nausea.
Do you have GERD? Acid reflux can also explain nausea, especially if it wakes you up at night. Make sure to not eat at least a few hours before you go to bed.
I hope others will be along shortly to give some input.
Take care.

I have had my gall bladder out, but I only have pain in my intestines when I eat something I shouldn't--especially sugar-free foods. Do you have diarrhea, especially with bile in it? I take Welchol once or twice a day to absorb my excess bile and I live pretty normally. There are a couple of ladies on here who have to take 6 a day, but they too live pretty normally.

If you do frequently have bile diarrhea, it could be that the constant excess bile has irritated your intestines to the point that you hurt a lot from it. Getting on the Welchol and getting the bile stopped and giving yourself time to heal could help with the pain. I also found that calcium goes a long way towards healing irritated intestines; just one cup of yogurt a day made my pain a lot better when I got myself tore up from too much bile and some sugar alcohols back in the summer.

I assume when they looked for ovarian cysts they looked for endometreosis as well? Those seem to go hand-in-hand a lot of times.

Have you had a stool test for bad bacteria, most noticably C. difficile? That is very easy to catch in hospitals (of all places), so you may have gotten it when you had your GB surgery and so what you have now is unrelated to your GB removal. It causes a lot of pain and diarrhea and gas. It's also easier to catch it if you had to go on antibioitcs any time prior to your surgery or directly after it.

Thanks so much.. I went to the hospital yesterday because the pain got so bad :0( I had another full catscan and they found nothing my white blood count was a little high not bad, ( I have problems with getting bad ear infections all the time ) They said my spleen looked a little biger then normal that made me VERY AFRAID but they said it still looked good. Nothing seemed to be wrong with it, THANK GOD.. They said some people have bigger eyes and bigger lips lol I may just have a slightly bigger spleen then normal. LOL So to have it checked in 3 months just to put my mind at ease. No I can't stop thinging about my spleen LOL I am a Hypochondriac remember :0(... They never checked my spleen before this was the first time the did a FULL body catscan. But you know what the number one thing not to do when your a Hypochondriac is to look things up on the internet.. So what do I do??? I LOOK IT UP!!! And scared the crap out of myself ( Pats on the back Good going self ) I should not worry if the doctors don't right? lol, WHO knows this could be a normal thing for me.

Can't your spleen enlarge if you have an infection somewhere else in the body? I thought that it was the main organ for fighting off infections and other body problems, so maybe it's just working a little harder right now?

I wouldn't worry about it. Definitely go back when they tell you to to make sure that it hasn't enlarged anymore, but if it's gone down or stayed the same, then it's almost certainly normal. I have big feet, but that doesn't make me a fast runner, LOL. Like they said, you may just have a slightly larger spleen than most, but that doesn't mean there's a thing wrong with you.

Your a sweetie thank you very much for making me feel better... yes it is the main organ for fighting off infections, Its a sign for a lot of cancers for it to get bigger.. But the doctor said it was just a tiny bit bigger then normal.. I also had Gall bladder surgery in OCT and my body has not been the same sence. I was wondering if may be that could have done something.. I will ask my doctor.. Need to put my mind at easy. I worry so much for nothing all the time and thats not good for IBS I know lol. And I always have an ear infection almost ALWAYS lol.. SO maybe that did it a little.. I will go back and get it looked at in three months like I was told... I just need to relax lol

You know, I just thought of something. Did they take out your gall bladder AND your bile duct? You probably won't know this unless you call your surgeon's office and have them look at your records. I remember reading back a year or more ago that while most surgeons remove both, some leave the bile duct and that can cause you problems afterwards, especially if there is still an old stone lodged in it. I'll see if I can't find you something about that. May explain your pain because, honestly, I don't hurt like you do and that's not common after having your GB removed.

Do you take antibioitcs a lot for your ear infection? Antibiotics can seriously mess up your gut.

I can't find that page that mentions gall stones still in the bile duct after surgery (which if you didn't have gall stones, then it's not applicable to you anyways), but I was wrong about them removing the bile duct. From a few pages I have read (at least in the UK, which is where these sites are), they DO NOT remove your bile duct, but sometimes it can be damaged during a laproscopic procedure and they have to go back in and fix it. So maybe you need them to ultrasound you and check your bile duct out?

Since gallbladder surgery my stomach hurts &it feels like spasms. At first Ihad the d but then i was constipated ihave been on fibercon but i was still constipated so i used a mineral oil enima.I strained so hard the oil came out & some biood .I called DR. she told me to take 2more fibercon &2col-rite.The next morning it hit me Ihad a impaction! thank goodness I had gloves &knew what to do. Iwent to DR. That day they done a x-ray & I'm fine all except more thombrosed hemi's .I am praying I don't have to go for awhile!!! They gave me glycolax gen. for miralax. Does anyone know if this will make my bowels real  loose(Ihope so) DR. told me to not take anymore fiber it was working against me .She said Ihad IBS. The strange thing is I done this 5 or 6 yrs ago to .Ihad acid reflux & some simular stomach pains (this time is worse ) I also had to stop fiber &use miralax (too long ago to remember& i only used it a few times )But my last DR. never mentioned IBS. Ishould mention my brother also has IBS......Is it normal to be such a wreck??? Iget to go see another surgion 4/10/06 to fix hemi's if Ican wait that long!!!! please any sugestions?

I had stones and it only worked 13 % out of 100 and was HUGE so it was keeping everything in. They took it out and one kinda pain is gone but I seem to have 5 new ones in its place after the surgery! :0( sucks...

Was you real sick before they removed your gall bladder? Is it normal for IBS to make you so sick?

I would not worry about your spleen. I dont think it enlarges when you have an infection but like all organs they are not all the same. I just found out that I have an accessory spleen(2 spleens) and obviously had all my life but find they don't note it on a CT scan because it is a benign thing. They had to go back and look at prior scans to see if it was a mass or an accessory spleen. It showed up on my last lung CT which was without contrast and i was scared to death as they said "mass" so I would not worry. I hope you had the CT scans with a contrast material as that shows much more.

You might want to look into a good digestive enzyme. I think that most people who have their gall bladders removed should be on some sort of digestive enzyme as well as a probiotic. I have a $15 bottle of digestive enzymes (purple box) that lasts me about a month. SOme good probiotics are Culturelle, Flora-Q, iFlora, Primal Defense etc. Try and get one that is refrigerated so that it maintains potency.
Is it UC or MC?
Asacol... 2 tabs 2 times daily
Entocort EC 9mg
Rowasa enemas- never really sat well with me
VSL#3 probiotic-1-2 packets a day
Compazine 10 mg as needed
Wellbutrin 150 mg Ativan .5 mg as needed
Officially married!
2.14.06 Test results positive for gluten and dairy sensativity!  GFCF in May.
