I just went to my doctor with horrible constipation that has been going on for months. I'm lucky to go once in 10 days if I don't use something. I also have a horrible burning in my stomach in the middle under my ribcage. He says I have IBS  and an ulcer but no tests were done to confirm this. The only test done was a fecal occult which was negative for any blood in my stool.  I was told to go home and drink on bottle of magnesium citrate, 3 tablespoons of Mineral oil, and then a Fleet enema. The next day I was told to begin on FiberCon caplets (2 twice a day) and Zantac 150mg twice a day. It has been 2 weeks and I have gotten no relief. The burning is horrible, and my stomach is so bloated and I can't go to the bathroom. The urge isn't even there. I started on Caltrate 2 days ago and have increased my water intake, drank prune juice and everything else I can think of. I called my doctor back yesterday and left a message for him that it's not working. Does anyone else have this horrible burning or all my symptoms? If so, what is helping you? Please help. I am miserable. Thanks!

Hi Shelly,
I think you need to get a 2nd opinion. You may have an ulcer, however the doc should have scoped you to confirm. I don't know how you go about treating an ulcer, but I doubt it's with fiber and an antacid. *What the heck is your doc doing!?!?*
After all that you've taken and you still haven't had a BM, I suggest going to Urgent Care (or the ER). Tell them you're suffering and you need help... Since obviously your doc couldn't help.
Sorry, I wish I could help.
Good luck!!!! Please keep us posted.

My thouhts exactly. THis was a new doctor that I saw and I thought it very odd too. I am going to call tomorrow and make an appointment to go and see a gastroenterologist. I did get my bowels to move with another bottle of mag. citrate so I think I can wait until tomorrow and try to get in and get a second opinion. Thanks so much. Will let you know what happens with the specialist.

Did you say you were taking Caltrate now? As in calcium supplements? That type of calcium will make your constipation worse.

You definitely need to go see someone immediately; constipation of that severity can be dangerous.

Shelly,
I am having the same problem, it is so bad that I have pain in the rectum, perinium and down my legs. Nothing helps. I am bloated all the time and if I try having a bowel movement I strain until I bleed and if anything comes out it is so small. I finely did some reading on having a colonic. It was worth a try because I felt so bad, I called and she took me on an emergency basis, I told her I was terrified she assured me she would take really ggo care of me, I went and she was so wonderfull to me and so gentle. The procedure was so comforting to me and felt wonderful, I had an enormous evacuation with a lot mucous etc., my belly went down also. I go tomorrow for my third colonic, I can't explain it but I am so excited to have this done to me, it's a wonderful comforting feeling when the water starts entering my rectum and then to start passing all that feces. Please try it you won't regret it, you may experience a little cramping but it is well worth it in the end and it is nothing like what we both are going through.
Just lay back and enjoy it and get the relief you need.
God Bless you
Chunky
