Sometimes, after I eat, I will get this horrible dizziness, then have the urge to pass gas or have a bowel movement.  Has anyone else had this?  I have been diagnosed with IBS/Spastic colon and Anxiety.

Thanks.

Anxiety can cause dizziness anyway so if you mix that with the stress on your body with whats going on with your IBS you are more susceptable to dizziness. Are you on any antispasmodics? I find that these actually calm down my colon and my nerves which helps a lot. If I don't take them, I can get dizzy and also get the heart racing and the whole episode when I have a BM. Are you on anything else for your anxiety? Sometimes the certain meds (antidepressants and/or benzos) can help calm you as well.

Yes, I have been taking Xanax .25mg for the past few months and it has seemed to help a lot with regulating my BM's as well as the dizziness.  I didn't take it last night as I have been trying to wean off of it so that may be why I am having more dizziness today.  I used to have the dizziness all the time before.

It could be from the weaning off of the medication as well. Sometimes our bodies want to object to that. I hope it gets better for you. You may want to ask your doc about an antispasmodic, it may be able to help, it could also help your bowels from the stress getting off the xanax.

Hi xan06-
I'm also diagnosed with IBS and anxiety. I do get dizziness which leads to a sick stomach feeling and urge to go to bathroom. I think mine are like little panic attacks. Also, I am taking ativan for my anxiety and like you am in process of weaning off of it. My diarrhea seems to be getting worse- I'm hopeful it is just my body adjusting. How long have you had IBS and how long have you been taking the xanax?

Sami-jo,
You and I should alot alike.  I have read some of your other posts and we have a lot in common.  I was diagnosed about 5 years ago, but have had problems for as long as I can remember.  It took some major knife stabbing pains to get me to go to the doctor.  LOL, now I go for everything.  I have been on the Xanax for about 4 months since my first horrible PA.  Before I started taking it, I would go a week or more w/o a BM, but since I started taking it,  I have gone every morning (I take it at night before bed) so it's obviously helping.  When I was pregnant I was the same way (regular) which is funny because most people get constipated.  So weird.  Sorry to hear you have the same dizziness, but glad I'm not alone.
