hey guys,

about a month ago, i went out to eat from this place that just opened up...

now the next morning i had a stomach ache which lead to using the washrrom all morning so obviously it was the food that made me sick...

not to forget, my friend that ate the food with me had a stomach ache the next morning as well...

but my friend has been fine ever since...and i havnt.

ive had similar situations of gettin sick from food quite a few times in my life, but in all those other cases i would be fine after the first time use of the washroom.....

but this time ive had diarreha and loose stool for the past month!

it has pretty much halted anything i do lately as i cannot take the chance to go out and have th runs....

i went to the doctor and did a stool sample for whatever (parasites, worms etc. etc.) and it came back completly fine.

now heres the thing..i still have my appetite, eat normally, dont have any fevers or feeling of sickness other then the constant feeling of going to the washroom...

i noticed in the first week of having that feeling everytime i went out, it was mainly a mental issue in which if i wasnt near a washroom i would start to get nervous......

so im really not sure what it is...mental or not? cuz for the past 2 weeks ive stayed indoors where i feel comfortable and ive STILL felt the feeling of needing to use the washrroom...

i dunno...any ideas or input would help. thnx.

Hi logix,
IBS has been known to be brought on after a case of food poisoning (among other things). It imbalances the natural flora in the GI tract. Have you tried taking probiotics to help replenish your good bacteria? It might help balance things out.
One should always take probiotics after a bought of food poisoning, diarrhea, when on antibiotics, or has a yeast overgrowth.
Good luck!

hey 7lil,

thnx for the reply..

forgive my lack of knowledge, but what are probiotics?

are they taking for temporary use or permanent use?

also, are there any specific things i should be eating or drinking to help aid in getting better again?

i was told to stay away from fast foods and what not, but it wasnt exactly too clear to what i should eat and what i shouldnt eat still.

also, has anyone had the same symptoms as me and gotten better after a month or 2?

As defined at PDRHealth.com: "Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms.... that may beneficially affect the host upon ingestion by improving the balance of the intestinal microflora."

In a nutshell, we need good bacteria to fight the bad. Food poisoning and diarrhea flush out our good bacteria, thus leaving room for the bad to inhabitate. Antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the bad, therefore it must be replenished to continue with proper digestion.
Your best source for probiotics are supplements (you will get the most), however, yogurt is also a good way to get them. Plain yogurt has the most probiotics, so does yogurt shakes.
You might want to try eating yogurt everyday (Activia is great!) or taking a supplement. It should help you.
