Hi, I have had a grumbly tummy since the birth of my youngest in 2001.  I had horrendous pains in the left side of my tummy.  since then i was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst and it was removed, but the pain never went!  This morning i woke up with such a bad pain on my right side that i thought i had appendicitis!  the doc has sent me away saying it is nothing!!!  the pain has spread up my right side and across the top and i have had a small amount of diahorrea.  i also get a low pain in the middle of my lower abdomen.  Does this sound like ibs?  if so, i have seen a diet on this site, bananas toast rice and apple juice?  please could you advise? my tummy feels very bloated and aches like hell, especially across the top.  Thanx!

Hi,
Your pain sounds like it could be IBS, however, it could still be a lot of things. What sort of tests has your doc sent you for to better conclude you have "nothing"?
NO, whatever you do don't follow that diet. Well at least don't follow the apple part. Apples are notorious for causing gas and bloating. Bananas are good to help hold your intestines - but be careful if you're prone to heartburn... Bananas are super acidic. Unless you have a sensitivity to gluten you should be fine with toast and rice.
Have you taken any OTC meds for the gas? Beano and Gas-X seem to work pretty well. For the pain (cramps) some of us use a heating pad. It seems to work pretty well too.
Good luck and I hope you keep posting. :-)

Ha! doctor just felt my tummy and when i said it hurt she said i know i am pressing quite hard!!  i am getting the impression you need to struggle for quite some time before they do anything.  my daughter had uti's for about 6 years before they discovered one kidney had shrivelled away ... but i digress.  having read lots of posts on this site i took a laxative last night (i'm on gmt here) and this morning i feel a lot better.  i'm still left with quite a lot of aching, but will see how i go.  do you have any further advice on diet (i suspect i am slightly wheat intolerant, i do know that msg gives me migraine)?  perhaps there is an external site i could look at?  Thanks for taking the time to reply.  :-)
