Just wondering, I have IBS with diareha and when ever i get an attack of nerves or a panic attack or ive eaten the wrong food my stomach goes bad straight away and i get a stomach ache and its only relieved by going to the toilet (more like a rush to the toilet) My question is, people who have IBS with constipation, when u guys get panic attacks or a bad stomach, do u have to do number 2? cos if ur constipated, isnt that a bit hard?? sorry if this seems a weird question.

Just wondering if its the same as what we get with the diareha...

thanks again

Hi Bella,

I can go from being constipated to have loose stools in the same day! I know, that sounds wierd! My constipation isnt that I don't go to the loo, i go every day but just not enough.
When Im anxious I ll have a day where all i passs is loose stools and then the next day Im back to constipation again!

Hi there- I've had a episodes of both C and D.  D gives me straight anxiety!  However, I've had some very bad experiences with C as well.  Twice, I've gotten so backed up that i was in so much pain, i began vomiting.  (of note, this can also be indicitive of a bowel obstruction, so if it happens to you be careful)  So now I'm anxious about both!  Fun, fun, fun. . . Once it goes beyond 2 or 3 days, it's all I can think about.  Anyhow, I'm always taking steps to help my anxiety because that to me (just me personally- don't know about others) can be more of a problem than my IBS symptoms.  Then the two feed into each other and on and on . . . Hope your symptoms improve.

I don't have to go if I get anxious. Maybe I don't get that anxious. I just get constipated and then get intestinal pain from gas and bloating and then nausea. Mine has subsided now so am back to almost normal. Had one short bout after my many months of problems but it left quickly. Between a heating pad, the probiotics and an occassional laxative things are OK. I never go a lot unless I have too much citrus.

I take zelnorm 2 times a day and use a lot of konstyl (fiber product). It has worked out good for me.  p.s. I have no anxiety so I can make no comment on that.

I was recently diagnosed with IBS after 20 yers of suffering and pain also my IBS mimiced ANA and finally with the zelnorm I no longer am in pain nor do i throw-up everytime I eat. Also i do take previcid and between the two I fell better than i have since i was 12 years old..... I have found that during stressful times I do have minor pain but I beleive that this stems from eating poorly when I'm stressed..... Just a thought! yeah

Hi suzi73,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. It's nice to see you are finally getting some relief.
Did your doc prescribe Zelnorm for long term?

Zoloft takes about a 4 weeks to kick in, so you just need to be patient. If you still are feeling anxious, talk to your doctor about upping your dose or trying somthing new. Do you get panic attacks often? You could ask your doctor about prescribing you a benzodiazpine as well, that helps many people until the anitdepressant starts kicking in.

Hi ItalianBella,
I got this off Drugs.com:
Zelnorm increases the action of serotonin (a body chemical) in the intestines. This speeds the movement of stools (bowel movements) through the bowels.
Zelnorm is used to treat severe, chronic, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in women who have constipation as their main bowel problem (constipation-predominant). Zelnorm has not been shown to be helpful for men with irritable bowel syndrome.
Zelnorm may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

I was on Zelnorm for over six months and it was awesome.  The effectiveness seemed to diminish after a couple months, but it was still better than nothing.
