What is the best way to take an antibiotic & a probiotic?  I take my antibiotics 3 times a day & I am supposed to take my probiotic once a day.  Is it ok to take them at the same time (say I took it at night or in the morning with my antibiotic).  I need to get a hold of my GI but thought I would ask here first.

I know this is not for now but there are many antibiotics now that you only need take once a day so it might be easier if you asked about one of these. I find it easier on my stomach overall as they also don't have to be taken as long though they are more expensive. Many times the Dr. will have samples of these so your cost will not be much or your insurance will cover.

Hi crazygut,

My understanding is also that to get the full effect of the probiotics, they should be taken at least two hours away (actually as far away as possible) from the antibiotics.  Otherwise, the antibiotics kill all bacteria including all the good stuff you're trying to get.

Hope that helps,
