I am jumping back and forth between this forum and Crohn's, as I have now been diagnosed with IBS, after a CTscan, sbft, and colonscopy the first time around all showed crohns and the second time, after pred, did not show crohns.  I am wondering, during my last colonscopy the doc had a very hard time getting the scope through and he put me on glycoLax, a stool softener, to get rid of the apparent over abundance of stuff in there.  I have noticed that the glycolax helps a lot, but now my poops are always very "wormy" and narrow.  would the stool softener do that, or is caused by narrowing in me?  I would like to know from you if IBS could cause that, or only crohns?  I am so tired of a very painful 4 months, a zillion tests and meds, and still no idea what is wrong with me!  thanks, yp

Hi yogaprof- I have seen you in both threads.  I officially have IBS as well and have been long frustrated at the whole process.  To answer your question, I have had a number of different types of BM's if you will- narrow, loose, liquid, solid. pebble like, ones that seem like they are 10 feet long, lol., etc.  Lots of people on this thread do write that they have narrow stools like the ones you describe.  I think, if I'm not mistaken, that the nature of our muscles and how they contract on diffenent days makes this as it is. Does this make sense?    I'm sure this is not just restricted to IBS.  Anyway, lots of luck to you finding answers.  Im off to listen to my IBS Audio Program- a hypnotherapy program designed specifically for IBS sufferers.  I'm gonna comment on it more as I go through it.  I'm on day 27 of the 100 day program- so far, very relaxing!  Have a good night.

I know stool softeners have made me poop mush before, so I wouldn't put any odd shape or consistency past them. And as the others have said, narrow stools are common in IBS... and I believe in Crohn's as well. I'm afraid that Skinsfan is right; once you have Crohn's, you always have it. But, you also have remission periods where everything works okay and looks good in there. I think that's why they have problems finding it sometimes; it doesn't show up all the time, like the way an eczema rash comes and goes.

it is odd how the docs are quick to say yes to crohns and then completely change their minds! makes me nuts, I will tell you. thanks for all the input. yp
