Hi all.

I have just been treated for H. Pylori and had the triple therapy for two weeks.

Whilst some of the symptoms calmed down a little, they came flooding back as soon as the treatment finished.

It is so miserable. eyes

I am 26 yrs old and I was diagnosed with H-pylori by a blood test taken after I had one bowel movement with blood (not a lot and it hasn't happened again) I had a colonoscopy which came back normal and I am currently on the prevpac and have 4 days left I have abdominal pain (so bad one night I was in the er and they had no clue what was wrong)  and a metalic taste in my mouth about 2 hours after I take the meds.  8 yrs ago I was diagnosed with having a lactose intolerance and can't determine the difference between my symptoms?  I have always had discomfort after eating and major bloating but I always associated that with the foods having some portion of lactose.  I am extremely stressed out by this, so many things about it, have I had it for years? did I give it to my fiance? Will the antibiotics hurt my system more than it will help? I can't figure out, if the percent of people infected with h-pylori is so high, Why is it not in a routine test??? (they check your blood during a physical)  Since I have never been tested before for this and I have had symptoms for soooooooo long doesn't that increase my chance of having ulsers or other gi problems?  Now I am becoming obsessed with germs and if it is on my food or in my water.  Should I sterilize my house after being treated?

I was just diagnosed with H pylori, an have started taking the prev pak.  Did anyone feel tired after taking the meds?  I feel exhausted hours later after taking it?  because I am allergic to penicillin,  they had to replace the amoxicillin (biaxin) with metronidazole.  I wonder would it make a difference if I took the meds, once a day instead of twice.  It would then be 28 days instead of 14.  Does anyone know? confused

Hi,

Diagnosed just last week started the Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, and Losec on Saturday. 10 days is what I'm supposed to hit it for. Hoping that the H-Pylori is what has been causing my stomach issues for the last while.

Not sure on the meds Belly Pain, a quick call to the Pharmacist would likely get you the answers you need.

I was always exhausted an hour after I took the prevpak also.  I think the combo of meds and the bacteria is what makes people tired cuz fatique is a major symptom of H-pylori.  I have been off the meds for a month and my stomach issues haven't gone away either I have lots of burning between the breast bone and belly button area. I can't drink alcohol or eat spicy and acidic foods. So far the foods I notice bother me the most are: salad, cesar dressing, mayo, juice, cheese and alcohol (any kind).  Anyone have problems with these or other foods after the treatment?

Do not take your meds once a day because it would not be strong enough to kill the bacteria, thats y it is called rapid therepy I hope you stick through it!

I was diagnosed with h.pylori after 2 months of constant heartburn. Had been on Prevacid 10mg for a year and it had always worked however, it stopped working. I started the PREVPAK treatment a week ago and am symptom free. When I first started it I was always sick to my stomach and extremely tired. Metal taste in the mouth SUX! I conquered the nausea by drinking gingerale before I took the meds and eating a few saltines. Will be scheduled for endoscopy when treatment is finished to make sure it is gone and to see if any damage was done as well. I feel for anyone who has it. It is a nightmare!

I was diagnosed with Hpylori in 2003, but only after going to the doctor's constantly. I was always told that the problem was "in my head" because they, somehow, thought that my symptoms weren't, um, I guess serious enough?
For the first while, I thought that my husband's vasectomy hadn't exactly worked because I felt so much like I did while experiencing morning sickness with my youngest daughter.
It took a doctor at the walk-in clinic to diagnose me after 3 months of this. I took 2 different kinds of antibiotics, and after 1 month, started to feel a little better.
The problem is now that I am again not being taken seriously by doctors and will most likely have to go into the hospital again to argue my case. I am not sure if it's a problem with Hpylori again or gallbladder problems. I have a lot more bile diarrhea than in the past.

Has anyone experienced chronic diarrhea with Hpylori as opposed to nausea/vomitting?

Thank You

Had H-pylori just over a yr ago and started sick again this year.  Dr ordered a blood test which came out positive.  Then my specialist told me a blood test will always come out postive after you've had h-Pylori in the past.  There are several other tests available that are reliable.  Turns out I don't have it again.

I have been diagnosed with H. Pylori & am on my last day of Prevpac. Thank God I haven't had any of the side effects some have experienced except for the bad breath. The directions are to take on an empty stomach every 12 hours, so I take it at 6:00 a.m./p.m. Mine was discovered with colonoscopy/endoscopic tests. This "bug" is contagious through saliva/ eating & and drinking after anyone. I was told by my G.I. that I could reinfect myself with my tooth brush. So until I get finished with the meds I'm soaked my brush in a 10% clorox solution then soaked it in pure alcohol. Now I just have a bowl of listerine I keep it in. Tomorrow, I go get a new one!!! I urge you to look up all the things this sticky bacteria can cause!! Strokes/heart disease (atheriosclerosis) etc. Even the kidney & diabetic association have included it in their foundation/Barretts esophagus (which I now have). Colon cancer is increased risk, on & on & on. My complaints to the primary doctor was pain just below my left rib. If I sat too long it would have a buldging, pushing feeling, burning in stomach, EXTREME Gerd & fatigue. Always had pressure in large colon. Good luck to all of us. Just wanted you to know about reinfecting yourself and diseases this thing can cause. Oh, yeah, told my daughter about it & she showed positive. I'll NEVER drink after anyone again nor let anyone drink after me!!!

I had H. Pylori and all I took was a two week regimen of Ampicillin and 30 days of chewable pepto bismal tabs and prilosec...much cheaper than these new H-Paks with Prevacid, Protonix, Zithromax (or some other super antibiotic) and metronidazole (another antibiotic...really, two of them?!).  And I just learned on Dr. Oz that pepto bismol kills H. Pylori...so why aren't doctors prescribing it?  Could it be those incentives they get for pushing the more expensive drugs?!  Also, having learned alot in a pharmacy class, be smart, take the $4 drug list to your doctor and tell him/her that if it isn't on that list you can't afford it!  Unless you are allergic to one of the fillers, buffers or dyes, the generic HAS to match the exact same medical ingredients to a tee by law!  Remember:  Amoxicillin, Omeprazole (prilosec) and pepto bismol!  If it still bothers you after a month, then let your doctor prescribe you something more expensive.

H. Pylori is a different condition then IBS and easy for a doctor to tell the difference for one because they effects different parts of the body. One upper gi gerd or ulcers and the other a lower gi condition IBS.

Hello everyone. I am currently on the three medication treatment and the only side effect I've had are light stomach pains, nothing to bad. I started feeling sick about three years ago and could never figure out why the sudden changes with my stomach, I have bloating, a lot of gas, a lot of burping, nausea and dizziness, sometimes diarrhea and vomiting from feeling so sick that I just made my self throw up in desperate attempt to feel better. In the last couple of months I can't tolerate eating things like pizza, hot sauce, milk, red meat, tomato and especially alcohol among other things, it really sucks to have to feel sick almost everyday it has changed my lifestyle a lot. I finally saw a doctor and I was told I had h pylori and that had to be the reason for my sickness. I absolutely hate feeling like this that I've literally cried a few times because I'm so tired of being sick. Hopefully the treatment works and I can go back to feeling normal again I miss being healthy and happy. Thanks.

Hello, I'm from the ulcerative colitis forum and I took the hpac (14 day) which has 2 antibiotics and prevacid (lansoprazole) 4 pills, twice a day for total of 3000 mg of antibiotics and 60 mg of lansoprazole. The first 4 days were great, I could eat anything, no burping or heartburn of any kind. I was also starting a flare of UC that same time and it totally "tightened" up and cleared it up also. That was a strange feeling and I was certainly hungry as well. But into the 5th day I started having some pains on my right side between and under the right ribs. I never felt that before.

Understandably, according to the med instructions, I did feel the slight pain in the middle area between my ribs and that went away the next day. But this other pain was different and immediately thought gallstones by the way other people described their pains before. Had 3 attacks, with the Jan 24, 2011 attack being the worst. I lost about 10 lbs now since Jan 18.11 because of it and on the 24th docs finally confirmed that I have numerous gallstones floating around in the gallbladder.

So I really attribute this whole thing to the prevacid because it really slowed down the stomach acid and exacerbated the gallstone. In hindsight I think I was having problems with the gallbladder before and this was the icing on the cake. Now because of the multiple stones I will have my gallbladder removed at some point and still have to watch what I eat and still did not gain my 10 lbs back yet. UC is in a positive holding pattern and hoping to get surgery before it decides to act up again.

I'll get the h-pylori checked again, they say to wait until 8 weeks after taking meds for it.
46 y/old female OntCanada Current: UC trying to sneak up again. Fighting back. Asacol 400mg 7/day=4am,3pm Entocort(budesonide enema 2.3mg) 1xnite as req'd. No prednisone. Floravit yeast/gluten free liquid iron 10 ml 2x/day. Prairie Naturals multi vit 1/day. Carlson Vit D3, 2000 IU, 1 pill every 4 days. Current 500 mg 2x/day flagyll start Feb 10.11 7 days.

I have -H.Pylori- i found it when i did a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy before 6 months due to abdominal pain diaria averagae two times a day smellyand loose stools. i hade some days without diaria too . from when i was young i had a small colitis.. now its worst-> IBS. i cant eat fatty foods.. i ve done ultrasounds blood tests , stool tests caltures and parasitological test. and they found : gastroscopy : 1H.pylori wich havent cause me any duodenal or pylori problem yet
2-- ---diaphragmatocele--- wich is not good. because it causes acid rflux and i have to take nexium for ever..
colonoscopy: (wich was my major prolem... ) showed nothing important and the biopsys .. no ulc. colitis and no chrons
ultra sounds: varicocele . wich started at the same time as the pain and the flatulence in my belly ,
some doctors say that bowel pressure or hard pussing on the toilet or to much gas can play a small role in the creation of the ____varicocele___, i dont know if this varicocele made my ibs worst or the otjher way around
and i also have two small hernias on my lower back from taekwndo , some doctors say that those can damage the nerves and make ibs worst .. isnt that in parasympathetic nervous system?? i dotn understand .
Anyway after taking amoxil and clarithromicyne for 10 days and nexium i should be well but i did the urea breath test 3 months after and i still have the e pylori .. i dont know if it can make my ibs worst maybe all that together plus stress can . and i also sleep really late always
nowi am doing a capsule endoscopy to see my small intestine ,and then maybe an Mri then i ll stop searching thats my story .. 28 male from Greece.. hope you ll find something from it to help you and me .

I am not sure if I have h-pylori or not, and I am on a waiting list for an upper GI and colonoscopy, but my main symptoms now are problems defecating, and not getting the normal urge to pass any stools.

I have often had to go on all fours and sit over the edge of a plastic bucket to manoeuvre a way of releasing a stool, would this show to be anything in particular?

This all started round Xmas, when one one particular day it was told to me when I was burping there was a really fowl smell from my breath, that bad that I could taste it, and the doc gave me some tabs to fasten the emptying of my stomach, but this made me sick, so I stopped taken them.

Then since then I have had the pain on occasions just under the sternum bone, and this alleviated after taking an extra amaprazole and some Gaviscon, so I only experience this pain twice, but at the time at Xmas it felt like I had been poisoned.

So I am real scared as to what has caused this problem with defecating, and I feel I can't go on with this much longer.

I am back on the movicol.

The thing to remember with H Pylori, is once you have it your blood tests will be positive for at least a year and sometimes longer. So, the only true way to detect once you've had it is with an endo.

My symptoms started around Xmas just past, fowl breath when burping, bowel changes, constipation, and more lately pain in upper shoulder blades mostly the upper right.

I am passing bowel movements without too much straining now, but they still look either pellet shaped or ribbon shaped, and I can have diarrhoea right after, the stools can be different colours and the diarrhoea can be yellow orange colour.

I am convinced that I have initially had a bacteria infection and it could be the H Pylori, as I have read that this infection can irritate an ulcer even cause an ulcer which could then cause gall bladder issues.

As I am typing this my back is killing me.

My endo is in the middle of April, will it still show signs of this infection do you think, that is if I do have it that is.

With the pain I get I am also worrying that I may have an aortic aneurysm, which hopefully will be ruled out when I get an ultrasound next week.

Will an abdomen ultrasound show this do you think?

Had the ultrasound today, it showed some gallstones present in the gall bladder, liver looked fine, so did the aorta, can't remember him mentioning the pancreas.

i got extreme abdominal pain too, thats why i was referred to the GI in the first place because i was in the er so much and they couldnt figure it out. i get a discusting taste in my mouth all the time which makes me feel even worse last night in the er they perscribed some nausia medicine and it isnt even working anymore and the abdominal pain is burning/nawing/sharp pains and its just getting worse. the doctor told me the antibiotics are more beneficial despite the side effects, but i dont feel the same really. i feel so discusting knowing i have these things in my body and it makes me more sick. ive also becoem pretty obsessed with germs, im constantly cleaning...worse part is im only 15 years old and ive missed 62 days of school and theres only like 180 and its finally the end of the year(last quarter, 2 quarters a semester so 4 quarters a year) and they want to put a chins on me, thank god i finally have proof that im not faking pain..the school would fight me when i needed to go to the bathroom so i think thats partly why i got it...for the past 2 years ive been getting bacterial infections and sick all the time and UTI's all the time(14 a year atleast) and for the past maybe 8 months, 5months min., ive been having the abdominal pain. im worried i might have given it to my best friend because we sleep in the same bed when we have sleepovers and we both love to cuddle(shes practically my sister) and we share food and drinks and eating utensils all the time and shes getting really sick now and i had spent this past weekend and the one before with her and today shes really sick(i almost had to leave her house i was so sick but i knew it wouldnt  help). so does anyone have advice, and anyone that has any more information on this that im not aware of, please tell me. i feel so bad for anyone else who gets it..i know this is partly irrelivant but im going to tell you guys anyways. in the er last night there was a 3-4yr old girl and she was screaming in pain from her abdomin and since shes so little she cant really explain just scream oww. she refuses to go to the bathroom and eat, i had the same thing they thought i had appendicits and they told her mom and dad to bring her because they thought she had appendicitis, im wondering if its this because i started crying and held her and walked around with her because her parents needed 2 sit down nd she needed to be held while walking around. i cried because i was doing the same thing with what i now know was h pylori. so yeah i will probably never see them again, but im worried about her. poor thing. theres some really bad bug or something going around so pediatrics was flooded with babies, toddlers, and really young kids( 10 at most) and i think im getting that on top of it.

I also get real bad abdominal pain but i am also having weeks of not so much pain and without diaria or loose stool its when i have no stress or when i sleep well ects.. and those weeks of me feeling well also ocured when i was on medicine and when i wasnt ( doralin to stop the bowel movements and losec or nexium to stop my esophagitis from my hiatal hernia..)
so that means those medicines doesnt play a big role in my colitis.. except the doralin when i feel real bad.
so the thing is i also have h. Pylori and i did the therapy with 10 days of nexium, amoxil and claricide antibiotics. after that i took the urea breath test and it showed that i still have the H.pylori.... $@#%
so i am reading on the internet that H.pylori has symptoms liek abdominal pain or diaria too...For OCEANZ ia m sure those symptoms is from H.pylori .. from what i ve read.
The thing is that my doctors say that H.pylori doesnt link to my Colitis but i thing it does
cause i have a sensitive bowel from when i was young i also have a hiatal hernia and not the best immune system
so adding H pylori witch makes the digestion not work so well makes me feel worst.. cause undigested food goes to my colon faster than they should and undisolved fat and more stuff... goes to my colon too for those to be disolved water goes in to the bowel making my stool loose and bacteria or even fungus are fed from those undisolved material creating gas ects.. so h. pylori can make a person like me feel alot worst
The doctor tolled me that with the medicine i took i should have a chance about 85% of eliminating it.now that i didnt eliminate it i could try the 2 weeks of the same medicine or another triplce scheme with amoxil for 7 days and flagyl with claricide for another 7 days all three of them with nexium but this has a small biger percentage of success
Another way to eliminate the H.pylori is with more efictive antiobiotics but he toled me not to use them .. he tolled me to have them for a more dangerous situation it might happen in the future with some other diseases ..
cause if i take those now then i ll ruing their usage and they wouldnt help me if lets say i have a pneumonia or something in the future .. but i feel pain and i dont know what to do .. also taking losec or nexium decreases the acid levels in the stomach .. witch is what we want but it also doesnt help digestion and also helps other bacteria to grow .. so as we say in greece.. in the front theres a clif and in the back theres a river.. nowere to go.. just relax and o whatever we can..
Yuo all have my sympathy .. live healthy and sleep early lol ..

Hi.. am new on this site; but I was just diagnosed with H.pylori ... am on 6 antibiodics a day and 2 prolesac for 14 days! My dr did a blood test and was positive but didn't give me antibiodics... sent me for an upper GI which was good - still no antibiodics. Then he sent me to GI doc who said didn't doc give me antibiodics * shakes head* ....... GI doc is seeing 2 patients a day with it and researching by zip codes which area people are getting it - said came from something I ate. I just read online that 50% of the time it is hereditary also that cranberry juice for 90 days was good for it. Also, heard about the cranberry juice on the radio last night.
I have also had IBS and colitis for years *

georgemg7- my doc said same thing not connected to my colitis* but it is supposed to be a 14 day not 10 day treatment for antibiodics. My doc would not give me flagyl because it has a 40% chance of not working - it is resistant*

Hope we all get well from this fast !!!!

was diagnosed with h.pylori a few days ago-did the simple breath test which has you breathe into a bag which is then sealed, then drink a solution, wait 15 and breathe into a new bag. I believe carbon levels are measured to determine if you have it or not. On Prevpac, which is brutal. Horrible taste in mouth, and I wake up from the most dry mouth ever during the night. Abdomen is terribly bloated, and have pains under both sides of rib cage. Found out pancreas numbers are off, and that I have an ulcer. Hoping for some relief soon.
