Hey everyone! This is my first time posting on this forum. I have been reading over posts for a couple days now and decided to join. I'm sure you guys get posts like this ALOT...lol...but I just want to know if my symptoms sound like IBS to you or not.
I have not yet been diagnosed by a dr...

Well, for a bout 2 yrs or so...since my 2nd pregnancy, I have been having diarreah. I went to the dr. while I was preg, and they told me it could be the way the baby was sitting on my bowel, etc, etc. But I have a stomachache EVERY DAY!!!!! Sometimes its so bad, I'll be sitting on the toilet, clenched over almost in tears becasue the pain is so bad. I sometimes get dizzy or lightheaded feeling, then...when I am finished making a bowel movement, I am fine again?!?! Now lately, I'd say 2 weeks or so, I have been feeling nauseated alot. Sometimes it hits me in the morning, before I even eat breakfast, but I don't actually vomit. Is nauseas a common sympton of IBS? And no, there is no way I can be pregnant. hehe. My stomach is constantly loudly gurgling and bubbling, and I often get gassy.
Both burping and...well, the other! eyes

Also, I have been suffering from what I think is anxiety the last couple months. I was told that anxiety & IBS are somehow tied together?! Is that true?

For one thing, EVERYTIME I have to go somewhere...anywhere...anytime I leave my house, my stomach turns on me. I'll have my shoes on, ready to go out the door, and I always have to run to the bathroom first. Now..I don't suffer from depression where I don't want to leave my house, or social anxiety or anything like that...but everytime I go to go anywhere...I'm makin' a bathroom break pit stop first. I hate it.
Now, is this normal? Could it maybe be me sub-consicously nervous to go out incase I have to make a bowel movement? Becasue I also will NOT go in a public washroom. My boyfriend thinks maybe that could be part of the reason I always have to go on my way out? Because I DREAD the idea of having to "go" while I am out somewhere?!?

I'm sorry for such a long, rambly post...but...my anxiety has been getting so bad that I am always thinkin' maybe I have something else? I google symtoms and hundreds of different diseases and conditons come up and I think, well it could be....?

Oh and one more thing, lol...fatigue??? I am ALWAYS tired. Is this normal in IBS, or maybe it's my anxiety taking a toll? Uggh....I just need some advice...

PLEASE PLEASE HELLLPPPP!
Advice and comments would be GREATLY appreciated.
I gotta' know I'm not alone here :-)

Hi, welcome to HealingWell! :-)
Yes, your symptoms do sound like IBS. Unfortunately, however, you need to see a doc and do serveral tests before getting a diagnosis. You'll want to get a blood test (check your vitamins, minerals, hormones, etc.) and a stool test (for parasites & blood). Most of us got an ultrasound and colonoscopy as well.
Are you on any meds that could cause D as a side effect? Are you on birth control pills? Do you see blood?
It is not uncommon for people to develop IBS while pregnant. Usually it happens after surgery or food poisoning... All those disrupt our GI flora. Have you tried taking probiotics? Calcium is also another way to help prevent D. It soaks up the excess water in the bowels.
It is quite common for IBSers to have D before heading out of the house. Many of us are afraid of having an accident or even just having to "go" in public. It is also common to have the pain subside after a BM. Nausea too is frequent. Hot tea and a heating pad can help with the pain and nausea. Ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger gum, ginger pills can do wonders for the nausea. Gerd can also cause nausea (and pain). Do you get heartburn?
Gas can be helped with Gas-X or peppermint. Flatulance is quite uncomfortable and embarrassing so I usually keep Gas-X in my purse, along with some mint tea.
Have you spoken to your doc about any of this post baby?

No...I haven't talked to my dr since my pregnancy 2 yrs ago!
The thought of the scope...even the stool test, just makes me SHUDDER!
I embarass about that kinda stuff VERY easily...
but I guess its nothing the dr hasn't seen or done before huh? LOL

Thank you very much for your advice,

Nausea and heartburn can be caused by acid reflux (GERD) or even H. Pylori.  You really should check with your doc so s/he can test for those things.  Both are quite treatable.
You are right about the scope and poop talk.... there is nothing the doc hasn't already seen or talked about.  Better to be embarrassed temporarily than to live with pain and suffering for forever.   tongue

Trust me...docs have DEFINITELY seen and heard it all.  I'm already a sounding board for everyone at work about their physical ailments, from uncontrolled diarrhea to kidney stones to lipomas and burst blood vessels; I'm like, "Dudes...I haven't even started med school yet!" Imagine seven years down the line and you'll see why something that seems so embarrassing to you will not even raise an eyebrow in the clinic.  Go ahead and get seen, and listen to the smart advice Lil has given you!

By the way, if you're having a lot of heartburn it is probably wise to stay away from peppermint (or anything minty). It will cause the heartburn to get worse. Also, if you're taking any sort of antacid, stay away from any with magnesium. It will make the D worse.
