Oneday,
Like Hopeforme mentioned, you need to find a good doc. You need a doc that will listen and be determined to find out what your problem is. Having to run to the toilet up to 40 times in 2 days IS NOT OK. That should only happen if you are prepping for a scope. So much pain and D is not common with IBS. Neither is loosing total control (although it can occasionally happen with IBS).
You might want to try a whole bunch of things like yogurt, probiotics, fiber, calcium and diet change. You might even consider, if you haven't already, consulting the IBD boards (Crohn's and/or Ulcerative Colitis). But first and foremost, you need to find a doc that will listen.
I'm sorry you are going through all this. Hang in there...

Hang in there, buddy!  I feel your pain; I used to go 20-30 times a day for weeks at a time and it was absolutely no way to live.  On those bad days, you could try Imodium; have you tried that before?  I found on the roughest days, that would help settle things down a bit (even if it meant going 10 times a day instead of 20!).

You will get through this, trust us...it might be a pain in your arse (literally), but you will do it!

I am sincere in this question but it will not sound that way. How can anyone go that much? I had diarhea today(a rare occurance for me) and in 2 trips I was down to just water like when I would prepare for colonoscopy. Where is all that coming from? I had nothing left after 2 trips. My cousin is like you guys and has been for years, down to 107 lbs for which they have never found a solution or cause. I don't understand what the heck is coming out after so long.

I believe you are sincer in your question canyonbabe, but believe me it's very possible....I never could have imagined it either until I lived it for years with my crohns disease, 30+ times a day is hell and I'm so thankful that those days are behind me and keep my fingers crossed that I'll never experiance like that or worse ever again.

I wish I knew where it all comes from, it's totally amazing, but I'll tell you, I sure cut back on how much food I consume in a day so that it hopefully won't be so frequent again.

thanks everyone.

i am going to see doctor again tomorrow as had really bad night i just couldn't sleep as the pain in my tummy was so bad. i have tried to increase my fibre when i first started to get the syptoms as i saw a dietition this made me feel. i had to change my diet two years ago to a low gi diet because i found out that my blood sugar levels are very high. i am at a high risk of getting diabetes and my doctor has already told me that i will become diabeteic. i am really not sure what to do as i know that i want to keep my sugar level down but if i cut dairy and red meat and other stuff from my diet i really don't know what i can eat. at the mo i don't eat a great deal. i was surpost to go on medication for diabetes to hopefully try and prevent for longer but i couldn't as it made my stomach bad.

i can asure that it is very dinfentaly possible to go that many times don't ask me how. i sometimes wonder how the hell i can. i have cut down on how much i eat. which at the mo is not a lot at all. over xmas i got a lot of chocolate from where i work normally i allow myself a little of it but i just felt to rough to eat it. the thought of it made me feel sick. coming from someone who craves chocolate even thoguh i don't have it that much shows just how i feel. i didn't eat much xmas dinner i only had a few drinks over the two weeks.

it is so difficult to see another doctor where i am. they are all sticking together and want me to see a shink. just because the test that they did didn't show anything up. they are implieying that it is in my head.

canyonbabe you are so lucky that you can only go twice i would give anything to do that. i just want a normal life.

i am going to find a doctor who is ganna listen to me. i need some help i am surpose to be going back to work in a days time. not sure how i am surpose to do that.

I still advocate taking pictures of each and every bowel movement you have and showing them to your doctor. How can they deny that? How can an average of 20 bowel movements a day be in your head? Maybe they think you're lying to get some attention or pain meds; that's why I advocate taking them pictures to show them how irregular your bowel movements are and that yes, you really have them.

Well, my problem is usually the opposite. I was going thru some sort of digestive problem the last week which I realize now was not my IBS but there just wasn't anything left after the two it was all clear. I think I would eat very light also if that was the case. I think we did discuss before that they are using antidepressants for IBS and intestinal problems because of the serotonin in the digestive system. I really think it is worth a try. I don't think they necesssairly mean you are making it up or that it is because you are anxious. Why not try it since they are not listeining anyway. You really have nothing to lose.

Today was horrible for me too. Counted about 10 times today... and like everyone else here, i thought i had no more left in me, and it was all watery (just like the lax they give you before the colonscopy). It was awful.

I've had 5 Seirogans tonight and have been maybe once or twice since. I think I know what caused it, I usually drink Soy milk but today i binged on Cheese and Milk (about 1litre of plain milk). Mainly because i'm trying to regain all the lost weight. Not trying that for a while again.

Hang in there guys!

hi
is there any dovtors out there that will actually listen to me. i went this morning and was bascially told yeah ibs nothing i can do about it go away and suffer. docotr told me to give up work. i did say how the hell am i surpost to do that. i need some money to live. i don't have a partner to help me. i am surpost to go back tomorrow on redused hours. i work with kids so it's not like i can just say i need the loo and run as i can't leave them they are only young. i am on my own and have to go a long way to use the staff loo.

she printed me off some info on ibs and then told me to take painkillers. what use that is cause they don't touch the pain. she told me about the dietary chances that i have already tried before. then she started going on about me waiting to see a pscharist as if that is of some use to me. i don't need to see a shink i need someone who is gonna sort out my gut.

i am sure that if my name is on anything medical they cock it up. i had to wait for ages for the consultant to sign a piece of paper to allow me to have camrea that time. i am also waiting to have op on nose as i suffer consenct sinus but i have just been told that the two months i have alredy been waiting i wasn't onthe list and i still arn't. i have to keep phoning them to get the consultant to put my name on the list. they cocoked it up and had no records of me even going to see consultant. by now i am pi**ed of and have no faith or respect for any of the medical perfession.

Yowie, find another way to gain weight. I don't think milk and dairy is the answer for most people. At least use the Lactaid milk but better yet eat some high calorie food and I think some of the supplement drinks are lactose free. Things like mashed potatoes with lots of butter, noodles, etc. and some sweet stuff.

Try avocados and nuts.... Brazil nuts and macadamias are the most fatty (good fat). You can also try protein drinks and Ensure (or the like).

Coconut macaroons. Tasty and high in calories and fat.

Dehydrated banana chips. Constipating and also high in calories (probably because they're deep-fried, but they've never bothered me on that account; I can't eat many without risking constipation).

I love coconut macaroons but really have a problem digesting coconut. I gained weight on the IBS diet but then I have IbS-C but all I could have was white stuff till everything calmed down. Lots of rice, potatoes and noodles with butter. No matter what illness I get I gain weight.
