tongue  as anyone tried peppermint oil capsules?  I took them for the first time today and boy, I was not expecting to have a " hot, minty" sensation when I went to the restroom.  LOL
Not sure if they are working on the bloating and cramps yet, but they are like a built in bathroom deodorizer!

A number of people on here use peppermint tea to help with the gas problem. Perhaps that wouldn't be quite as fragrant on the flip side? Lol.

Whether or not the capsules work for you may be based upon when they dissolve; if they dissolve too late, they may have already gone past the gas you need them to work on. Tea and regular old peppermints are likely to work higher up in the digestive tract; so if the capsules don't help, try switching.

If you have an acid problem you MUST use only those peppermint products that disolve in the intestines as they will really mess up the valve that allows the acid to back up. Anything mint it the first thing the Dr. told me not to have because of acid problems. Mint, chocolate and alcohol as well as some meds will really make the LES valve floppy and that in itself can cause bloating and cramps. I even have a problem with the ones that are supposed to disolve in the intestines because I keep burping up peppermint and that doesn't seem right and all my food has a peppermint aftertaste. They do settle the stomach and help with gas as long as the gas is not from Acid.

These are enteric coated and are supposed to dissolve in the intestines. I opted not to try the peppermint tea because of acid reflux. I've tried fennel tea, too.
I didnt' taste peppermint but I sure felt it! I may go easy on them.

Hi Pam,
Both teas are great for you.  Chamomile and Fennel are actually supposed to help quite a bit.  This is what I posted in a separate thread:

Tea is also great for the gut.  Here is a list of teas I mentioned in another post:
  • Chamomile (soothes the nerves)
  • Fennel (calms muscles, improves digestion, helps flatulance)
  • Mint (eases GI trouble, relaxant)
  • Lemon Grass (antispasmodic, anti-irritant)
  • Ginger (eases cramping & nausea)
  • Green (promotes digestion, overall health)
  • You know, I noticed that making fresh tea is way better than buying the bagged stuff.  I don't know how to make Chamomile, but I just boil some fennel seeds and I also make my own mint tea.  Fresh mint is great as well!  :-)

I actually never thought of making my own tea - that is a great idea!

The peppermint, fennel, ginger capsules I use are entiric coated but since I burp up the peppermint I don't think they are disolving where they are supposed to because they do kick up the acid if I use them over a couple weeks. work good till then. Chamolile is in the ragweed family so don't drink it if you are allergic to Ragweed or other weeds.

You know - when I drink chamomile tea I noticed that I get a slight headache? I just associated the tea and headache yesterday. (since I have headaches a lot and migraines and sinus issues it took a while for me to realize that I had one after the tea.) Do you think that could be an allergic reaction? Yesterday, I switched to fennel tea.
