Hi everyone,

This is my first post here on HW and I'd like to introduce myself a bit. I'm 22 yrs-old and study in a Canada's University (College equivalent in US) and english isn't my first language so that's why I sometimes make errors typing.

I've been having problems with my colon for maybe 2 years now and I just can't stand it anymore.  I'm not sure what my disease is but all I know is that the gastroenterologist (sp?) didn't detect any physical problem with it and thats why I'm guessing it would help me more to get infos here.  I also got a diagnose 2 yrs ago saying that I have a part of the colon that sometimes stops working for no reason but they said I shouldn't be too aware of, but now I am.  Oh and maybe I should add that I was and I've been kind of depressed for about 3-4 years now because of a lot of bad stuff is going on these years so for anxiety, I think it's even worst.

So let me describe you my situation:
First of, I have no diarrhea issue, in fact I have issues with constipation.  I can feel it everyday cause I have problems evacuating.  Some of my symptoms are gas, bloating, colon pain, visible round belly, narrow stools, sometimes only mucus and lots and lots of difficulties evacuating.  I always go to the bathroom in the morning right after I wake up cause it seems to be the time when I could evacuate more easily but it doesn't always work.  Physically, i consider myself in a good shape even though i do not exercice everyday but i try keeping myself busy and I eat well, meaning a bit of everything but I just eat too much sometimes, just can't stop food is a life's pleasure :P.  But even when I eat normal size meals, my digestive system seems to stop working and I'll have to find a way to make it comes out.

I tried metamucil before and it didn't work out great.  It seems like fiber isn't a solution to my problem.  Even the solution they make me drink to clear my intestin (when i did tests) only works for the 2-3 first glass of laxative. After that, my intestins seems to shut the way somewhere near the end of the road.  So from my point of view, it seems like when I'm too stress or too anxious about something, my intestin seems to react by shutting the way and thats why i think i get these problems cause it looks like the harder I try pushing, the more I feel my guts shut so nothing will pass through. Anyone experiences this on a daily basic?  I'm living this way for 2 years and just can't stand it anymore..

Well, I'm sorry for this long post cause I know it gets tiring to read so much so I'll stop here, for the moment.  I'd like to receive any kind of feedback about this weither it can help or not.  Thank you for your precious time and precious comments

Hi Dyum,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
Are you taking anything to try and help with your constipation (other than the fiber you mentioned)? Lots of folks drink prune juice or take aloe vera pills. You can also try stool softeners and probiotics. Probiotics are actually great for you no matter what, especially if you have any sort of digestive issue. Are you male or female? The only reason I ask is because sometimes women can get funky symptoms around their time of the month and/or if they are on birth control.
Are you on any medication that has constipation listed as a side effect? Are you on a multi-vitamin that includes calcium?
Have you continued to see a GI specialist for a diagnosis? Have you spoken to your doc about Zelnorm? I was only Zelnorm for months and it did wonders for me.
Again, welcome to the board. Sorry you have to be here, but you came to a great place.

Hi to you too,
thanks for taking time to read over my post. For now, I'm not using any medication or anything that could "help" my problem cause nothing really helped me since I tried stuff. I once tried for a few weeks drinking prune juice but all it made me was watery stool (if I could even call them stools). It's like if the juice flowed on the sides of the stool and found a way to the exit without helping the actual stool go out. I don't know about aloe vera pills. Probiotics sounds like something that could maybe work, I'll try to find some of that. Do I need any prescription for that? Is it available at the drug store? I'm not taking any vitamins but I do drink milk, eat cheese and I like dairy product in general but never took supplements or vitamins, should I? about the GI, no I just think it was a waste of time to go there, I passed a few tests and all the GI said was that I was fine and everything is okay... Oh and btw, I'm a guy so nop, no problems with birth control :P

Well, I think it would cut down on the cheese as it is very constipating. The fact that you like dairy doesnt necessairly mean it agrees with you. YOu can buy probiotics at most drug store, vitamin stores. Everyone seems to have their favorite kind, some need refrigeration, some don't. I have used a couple different ones and they all seem to work the same for me. Try to get one with no additives. It sure won't hurt and may help. How did they diagnose the colon problem. It sounds like a motility problem and Zelnorm can help with that. It is a trial and error for us people with intestinal problems. Seems like no two people are alike.

Yeah I know dairy products are constipating but thats only in the case where you bowel works slower or something like that right? But in my case, since it seems to be that a part of my intestins aren't working well or it "shuts" the way, it doesn't make that big of a difference for me. Anybody feels the same i do? I mean, harder I push, tighter the colon seem to get closed.

It is not just because they are constipating that people don't eat them. For some it gives them diahrea, it is that they cause bloating, gas and acid production and many people lack the enzymes to digest them properly and that causes pain and discomfort which causes problems that you mentioned. If you are not digesting food well it leads to oher problems. It sometimes takes trial and error to get it all working right again. I don't know what the difference is in being constipated and having to push like you say cause it isn't working right. We can get into these syndromes and sometimes it takes different methods to get back to normal
