Hey y'all!  I saw the new GI today.  So far I like him the best out of all the GIs I've seen!  His bedside manner was MUCH improved over the others'.  He actually spent probably an entire half hour with me, which is unimaginable.

Anyway, he is repeating stool tests for ova and parasites, Giardia, qualitative fecal fat, and leukocytes, on the off chance they will reveal something this time.  He said he thinks there's some infectious process going on since I've had positive fecal leukocyte tests in the past, plus the presence of fevers, and because Flagyl has worked in relieving the symptoms.  He did say that depending on the results of these tests he will probably want to do another colonoscopy to see if anything has changed in the past two years.

After the stool tests he's putting me on a 10-day course of rifaximin, which is a different kind of antibiotic.  Said that rotating antibiotics every six months might be enough to keep my guts in check.

Anyway, thought I'd pass on the good news that I saw someone I actually liked.

Thanks gals!  I'm sure I'll get better (again) and even if I get worse (again), I'll be in a spot where maybe I can actually get something done.  Because I've found that since I've become a "medical student," even though I haven't even started yet, I've gotten further with my doctors.  It's messed up, in a way, but maybe this way I'll be able to help more people in a few years than I would be able to if I hadn't been through this.

When I become a doctor - perhaps a gastroenterologist, I've been thinking lately - this experience will be invaluable.  Who knows how much it sucks to have diarrhea every day if you haven't been through it?  Right?

That's why I only go to female gynos. What's a man know about having periods, cramps, and all that junk? I'd certainly rather see a GI who has IBS or some other bowel disorder. They would know what it's like to not be able to work for being on the toliet all the time, being afraid of not finding a bathroom, etc. I think you should make that your business card motto: Sarah, G.I. Physcian: "Been there, doing that."

Great to hear Sarita.. i'm so happy for you! Please keep us up to date with your process... at the moment i'm going through tests for D.Fragilis and B.Hominis (they've already tested and ruled out giardia), hope they find something this time.
