Okay, so the parasite test and blood test was negative. Whew! But I'm still having major issues. My IBS was ALWAYS a constipation thing, and it would especially flare up near my periods. The whole really long or pellets thing, the whole shibang. It was annoying, but I could deal with it. This past month has been terrible. It starts with an episode, to say the least, of D, and I mean crazy, then nothing for two days or so except serious gas pain which was somewhat alleviated by gas-x. Then I'd take some fiber pills and things would seem somewhat normal. But after one big meal of anything its like I could feel my stomach say not so fast, and then the cycle starts over again. The thing is that I just feel like this isn't working its way to being gone. Its a cycle. A terrible one. And it literally came out of nowhere. Does this happen to anyone else? This horrible turn in symptoms from constipation to D and major gas issues? Any suggestions would be great.

The other thing is that I just can't shake what that holistic doctor told me when she read my pulse and said I should be watching my gall bladder. Maybe I should get a scan?

Any thoughts?

Thank you so much.

Hi Anabelle,

I know exactly what you mean by everything being one big cycle.  My IBS was the same way… I’d have C for a few days and then when I was finally able to go it would be D.  Then it would start all over again with C and then D.  My doc told me that if I could just get regular the C & D episodes would subside.  I started taking Zelnorm to regulate my BMs.  Soon enough I was pooping regularly that my body didn’t have time to build up and get D.  I also gradually began eating yogurt and taking fiber and probiotics.  Once I got on a good dosage of fiber and probiotics I stopped with the Zelnorm and all was pretty “normal.”  I still get C & D sometimes, but it is no where near as often as before (before was about once a week or once every 10 days).  I think the key is having all that good bacteria in there.  Dannon Activia has done wonders for so many of us on this board.  Every day I eat at least 1 yogurt and take 1-2 probiotics.

If you are still worrying about your gallbladder maybe you should have it checked.  Have you already had an ultrasound?  If so, your next step would be to ask for a Hidascan.  Hidascans are the best way to detect malfunctioning gallbladders.

Good luck!

7Lil,

Thanks so much for your reply, I hope this doesn't come off as stupidity, but can you tell me some examples of pro-biotics? I get that the yogurt would help and I'm going to start on that today. But are pro-biotics pills or something?

Thanks so much for you reply.

Hi Annabelle,
There are no stupid questions here.   tongue

Probiotics are "good bacteria" our guts need for proper digestion.  Most yogurt has a type of probiotic in them (especially Dannon Activia).  You can buy the pill supplements at most drug stores... You for sure will find a couple types of probiotics at a nutrition store.  The most common probiotic is Acidophilus.  However, I take Kyo-Dophilus and Culturelle.  Acidophilus causes me too much gas.  You can also look online for probiotics.  I buy mine over the internet as it is much cheaper than going to a health store.
