I don't know if cross-posting is allowed or not. I didn't see anything in the rules. If there's a problem with me posting this in two forums, please let me know. I didn't know if people from this forum got over the UC side and wanted to ask here as well.

***********
I've been having odd symptoms for the past 2 mos. I've lost 10 lbs because I couldn't eat due to an awful feeling of reflux and nausea. I have had IBS since I was 18 and I'm now in my 40's, so I know what IBS is like. This isn't it! I had an EGD and it showed gastritis, but nothing going on with my esophagus. I've had reflux for the past 3 years and this is the worst it's been.

about 2 weeks ago, I had a terrible night with pains across my abdomen. Waves of them. Then I had a huge D session which ended with frank blood. The blood continued for a few hours, but no more stool. The pains continued, but not as severe, for several days. My GI sent me for a colonoscopy 4 days later and it showed severe inflammation. The link below is my scan of the pics he gave me. After the 'scope, he gave me a script for flagyl. All I heard from him when I was waking up was, you have inflammation.

When I went for my follow up, he showed the narrowing of my colon and inflammation/ulceration. He said he took a biopsy, but it didn't show UC. (I understand it not showing crohn's, but can it show it's not UC?) I hadn't had further episodes of D, but I did have C. No vomiting. I felt better than I had before, and he said it was the flagyl. He told me then that I was a worrier and I got the feeling he thought it was all in my head.

Today, I'm nauseaous again, having crampy pains and have had 4BM's today. The last one was pure D w/painful cramps.

I tried to make it a link... If it doesn't work, cut and paste into your browser.

I thought IBS wasn't supposed to be inflammatory? Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Wendy,
Real quick, I made your link linkable BUT it still doesn't work. I copied and pasted and yet it still doesn't work. Also, duplicate posts are not allowed (Rule #16), HOWEVER, we mods make exceptions. As long as the post is relevant and NOT pushy or advertising... I don't see anything wrong with your post.

Moving on...
Blood and severe inflammation and/or ulceration are NOT part of IBS. It seems to me that if the doc sees anything "severe" it most likely indicates IBD. Sometimes with IBS the doc might find minor irritation, but even that's rare. You really should get a second opinion. Can you take your pics and your medical chart to another GI? Are you in the US? Legally, anyone in the US is entitled to a 2nd opinion.

Thanks Lil! I'm not sure what to do about the link... Here is another address, maybe it'll work.

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/wjerda/my_photos

I've got the album on public, so I'm not sure what else to do and I don't think you can embed pics here.

I have the pics, but I do not have copies of my file. I'm going to call him on Mon and ask about the symptoms I've had this weekend. If he fobs me off again, I'll ask for copies of my record. It's such a pain to do that and gets me all angsty. mad I'm so tired of being sick. I don't think losing 10 lbs is a symptom of IBS either.

Wendy, It worked! All I did was make your link linkable. -- Lil  :-)

I must admit that I have no idea what I'm looking at in your photos. Sorry.  sad
I can say, however, that weight loss is not listed as a symptom of IBS. BUT, some of us have been known to lose weight for fear of eating. You should definitely talk to your doc again or do all you can to see another. What you're describing does not sound like IBS.

Lil, you're a peach!

The top left photo shows inflammation/ulcer. The bottom left photo shows how the colon is swollen almost shut because it's so inflammed. It's also quite red. The top right also shows more swelling, and the bottom right shows hemmies.

Thanks for the schooling.  **blushing**  tongue

With all that that is going on, you really do need to see another GI.  Such redness and inflammation is not part of IBS.  Please don't let your doc get away with saying you have IBS.
