Well I  was dx'ed today with lupus! To think I thought ibs was bad. I know I still have ibs but now I understand my symptoms a little better. My ibs symptoms was just too much to be ibs. Now my lifetime of illness is making more since to me. I have allways been the type when I get sick it is for months. This last flair has been going on for a yr. now. So far it is cutanious ( skin ) but they believe it is also sle ( organ involvment ) The doc is to call me tomorrow to let me know which meds to start. I am scared to death but at least now I know I am not crazy just ill. I would like to thank eveyone for your suport though this ordeal. I'm sure I will be back because I still have ibs issues.

Hi bhkhhh,
So sorry for your bad news... but, I'm sure it is at least a tiny bit of a relief to finally have a diagnosis. There is a Lupus forum here at HealingWell too. If you haven't already I'm sure you could go there and get a ton of information.
I hope you do stick around because there are a lot of great folks here who are willing to share their experiences. We are all here to support and help each other.
Take care.

Wow. Kind of blindsided you, huh? I'm sorry to hear that. But at least you know what you're up against. It's just not right that IBS stays around to make us more miserable when something even more irritating comes around. I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks so much. I found the lupus forum a long time ago that is how I knew it wasn't only ibs, but it was the one thing I didn't want!! It is kind of a relief though. Now I dare them to look at me like I'm crazy! I wonder If they'll think anti- d's will cure this too. I'm sorry, I'm a littlediscouraged with my medical treatment. I just want people to know if they feel like there is something wrong to keep looking for answers. It took 14 or more doc's to figure this out. The strange thing is I was scared from the get go it was this!

That just goes to show that you should follow your gut feeling. Never let a doc make you feel like a hypochondriac if you know something is wrong. Keep pushing or look for a new doc.
Good luck, bhkhhh!!! We hope you can find a good balance with IBS, Lupus, your docs, and your meds.

Hopefully the Lupus meds will help your bowels. A lot of the auto-immune diseases affect the bowels. My mother has fibromyalgia, and she's started having periodic bowel problems as well. But I think she doesn't have them unless she's having a flare, so maybe if they can get your lupus under control, your bowels will be fine too!

Looks like we are in a similar boat bhkhhh. I have UCTD and IBS and its not fun dealing with either, not to mention both. Are you going on Plaquenil? This seems to cause some people a bit of diarrhea in the beginning (although it never did that to me) but I hear it subsides with time. My meds seem to make me a bit constipated (I take NSAIDs too UGH) but my Miralax seems to keep everything moving smoothly (pun intended :)

I am waiting on the ana marker to come back. If it is no higher than it was 5mo ago then she is putting me on plaquenil. If it has went up then she said I will have to see ruemy for other drugs. I found out 2 days ago & I'm still without drugs! I guess they figure I lived this long without meds I'll be fine until they get around to me.
