Well, my "good streak" of days is apparently over. I'd been doing so good, and out of the blue last night, I just felt sick to my stomach, and couldn't sleep. I've been nauseated all afternoon, and have had some reflux, and now my colon is going CRAZY, gurgling and making all sorts of weird noises. I'm also constipated again, and am having mucus stools ... it's so annoying. I don't get how one day you can be fine and dandy, and then the next you're back to feeling blah and your body doing weird things again. It's like, just when you think you might actually be getting better, it smacks you in the face and your body seems to laugh at you. I just want to feel normal and good again.

Sunshine- sorry you are not feeling well.  This is obviously one of the real downers of IBS and other bowel disorders.  The most important thing for me to do is stick with my self care plan every day regardless of how I'm feeling.  I follow a very similar diet each day and exercise and try to get rest (not always successful there) and I also employ some Eastern medicinal remedies. We cannot predict some of these things, but what you can do is continue your fight for your health and care, care, care for yourself.   Sorry this doesn't offer much if any help but I hope you feel better.  Carell

Hi, I have had IBS for 20 years and can relate totally!  Right now I am going through some bad days but like you said I will have maybe 2 good days in a row and think "Hey this is the good life" then WHAM it's right back to the gurggling stomach and the pains, fast heavy heartbeats, no energy and just down right blah feeling.  It is so hard to function normally on a daily basis.  It's hard to go to work in the moring knowing that when I get there I'll probably have to head right to the bathroom, it's very depressing.  I have been on meds in the past but they don't work anymore.  The doctors don't really give you anything to go by, no tips, you know how it goes.  Anyway heres hoping to some more "Good Day" in the very near future.

Take Care

DX'd with IBS: 1988
Med's: was taking Modulon but doing better since I stopped taking it
Deperately looking for a solution to fix it.

It's amazing how rejuvenating those "good days" can be.  After a while, you don't even remember what it's like to not have these physiological concerns, so when you have a pain/diarrhea/whatever-free day it's like a revelation!  I had one the other day...it was freaking awesome!  We'll have them again, don't worry : )

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody :) I'm going to look back over my food journal and see if I can find what might have triggered it, if anything ... I guess sometimes, no matter what you do, it just happens. Oh well... such is life.

Sunshine, sorry your good days didn't last. Like Sarita said, you will have them again. We all will. I think that is what helps us all through. The past couple days have been a bit rough for me as well. I just plan on taking more probiotics and continuing to eat health. You know, I also think stress is a culprit. When overlooking your food diary, you might also consider including your stress level.... Could that have had an affect on you?
Enjoy those good days when you have them. :-)

haha, stress. yes. i'm graduating from nursing school in may, and trying to find a job, and trying to keep up with schoolwork and clinicals, and planning my june wedding, all at the same time.

it's no wonder that my body screams at me sometimes.

yes the dreaded cycles of IBS! I know what you mean. Ok it's nice to get a few months of remission but sometimes I think its just like a tease, and when all the symptoms come back you have to get back on track mentally. I've been monitoring my symptoms very closely for a few years now. I even have a graph of my symptoms and I get a regular remission every 6 months or soo ... I would love to know why
