I haven't been back to my gastroenterologist since the colonoscopy. He told me I had a really long colon, meaning it takes food a long time to pass all the way through.

But this cramping, bloating and gas problems have become much worse in the past 4-5 months. I don't know what else it could be but IBS. I have become extremely uncomfortable and I suppose I will be calling the doctor next week, because this bloating is killing me. Thank you so much for your reply.

Blessings,

HI to all- I have been getting a lot of pain myself the past 6 months-well maybe I shouldn't say a lot but holy **** it has kept me up all night long a couple of times.  And there is nothing that will soothe it. I have tried (aside from watching diet and exercise) heating pads, Gas-X, yoga poses, and some other things too.  The only thing that seems to help most of the time is having a movement. Except it seems to be stuck halfway through the intestines or something.  It's happened plenty when I'm not in the middle of fighting constipation,so  I don't know what to make of it.  But after i've gone to the bathroom anywhere from 3-7 times (sometimes diahrrea, sometimes solid) it fades enough to sleep or go to work or whatever.  Then it can take up to 3 days before I'm feeling myself again.  It's almost like a motility problem (I've even taken to eating bran on a daily basis to keep it normal- sometimes a BIG no no if I'm swinging towards D), but to the best of my knowledge, I don't have anything of that sort.  So, the MD says it's most likely gas.  Anyway, good luck with your pain.  I hope you find something that helps.

Gas pains are my main symptom, actually. aside from all the meds, I like to lay on my right side - anatomically, this helps the air move out of the colon. Sometimes moving around helps too, it just depends. But I get a lot of relief at night when I can just go to bed and lay on my side. Also, when I take digestive enzymes (I use Enzymatica's Digest capsules), I don't get gas pains nearly as bad. You might want to look into that.

Mercyme, carbs are terrible for causing gas. I don't know if you eat a lot of pasta, rice, potatos etc, but maybe cutting down on them ould help? Sorry, i don't really know what else to suggest.

I do find when i have bad gas, when its verypainful, i take a small glass of warm, not hot, water, about 2 to 3 inches worth and one teaspoon of Bicarbinate of soda. Down it in one and wait. It USUALLY shifts all the gas and can be rather embarrassing so make sure you're in good company!! lol On a couple of occasions (but very rarely) this had caused a serious bout of D, but i have always felt much better afterwards.I have been told this may not be a good idea if you have high blood pressure, but my mum uses this method, has really high bp and never had a problem.

Hope this is of some help!
