Hello all, I am glad I found this forum. I stayed up all night reading most all posts on the first 10 or so pages on this forum. It has been really informative.

My IBS symptoms continue to grow worse and my doctors continue to throw more treatments at me (mostly drugs). The majority of drugs I have tried give little help and I experience unsettling side effects from them.

In reading a large number of posts, my current impression is that when individuals post with stories of natural treatments such as the grapefruitjuice story, a number of other members jump on and spread words about drugs all over these posts and do not give any attention to the original post and the content that was initially meant to be the topic.

What I would like are posts from people who have had success with natural treatments (not drugs). I would like to hear more about this idea of treating the cause.

Specifically, I would like to here more from these members: njk, questforhealing.

I find the posts by these two members to be very interesting, especially because it seems that no one pays much attention to them.

I'm really sorry that you feel that way however I think it would have been irresponsible of me as a moderator to ignore the fact that grapefruit juice can be toxic to some and could lead to death on certain people that take certain meds.  That being said, I love grapefruit juice and since it doesn't affect any of the meds that I'm on that I know of, I will continue to drink it and benefit from the positive health effects.

Most of what I take for my IBS is natural.  I take fiber which is natural and I eat fruits and vegetables which are also natural and all of this treats my IBS.  I have gone all routes of medicine, including conventional and unconventional and I'm really happy with my treatment which includes fiber and Miralax mostly which makes my quality of life so much better.  I hope you find something that works for you.

I'm going to have to agree with Des on this one... The only reason we jump on the "natural cure" members is because most of the time they are trying to sell their product. How do we know this? Because there is no cure for IBS. People can disagree with me on this until their fingers go numb, but there is no medical documentation showing that IBS has been cured.
With that said....
I too, like Des, go the natural route. I take fiber, drink lots of water, eat lots of yogurt for the probiotics, and I eat veggies every day. It took me a while to find this regimen but now I have mostly good days.
I hope you can find something that works for you.

Well, that being your opinions, I have a question.

Has anyone looked into scientific journals that publish research finding from alternative medicine? Maybe it is time to look for legitimate literature away from standard medical treatments. Especially if people have a hard time with the drugs like I do.

There has to be some legit science out there that doesn't involve drugs...

Hmmm... I'd be curious to see that as well. :-)

Anyone got any?

I found an interesting site by a woman named Jane Russell.

look for June Russell's Health Facts. her story with medicine almost killed her. she gives an interesting account of what west. med. can't do and what alternatives can do.

it may be a good site to help us with new ideas...

Not warning people about grapefruit (including juice) knowing that many may be taking cross-over drugs like cholesterol drugs, about the interaction between grapefruit and these and many other kinds of RX would be very careless...there's nothing wrong with warning people about actual drug interactions with grapefruit it has nothing to do with trying to detere people from some possible relief they may get from ingesting grapefruit, it's simply a FACT and a warning for those who are unaware of the potential hazzards combining RX with grapefruit.

So far 2 proven natural ways of dealing with IBS are probiotics and fibre supplements, neither of which are dangerous or have interactions with any RX one might be on.
