I'm off of zelnorm and I don't know what to do. My doctors have given me 17 medications and they are not helping. I keep going to the emergency room to get fluids . I've lost 18 pounds in 2.5 weeks. There is nothing left for me. My doctor is talking about TPN! sad

Why are you losing weight if you are constipated? Most people only use it if they have diahrea. I don't know your history but something is very wrong. What are all the medications for. Anyone losing that much weight needs scoping, CT scans and the whole nine yards.

Hi hungry,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
We are a bit confused why you were on Zelnorm. If you're losing weight then it leads us to believe you have IBS-D... Which Zelnorm is definitely not prescribed for. Do you have IBS-C, yet you are still losing weight?
Have you been scoped?

This is from hungry,
I have had a million tests done at the Mayo clinic and University of Minnesota.
I have IBS-C and gastroperesis. I am losing weight because I cannot eat anymore. It has been almost a month now. I am having a difficult time keeping liquid down and have ended up in the ER 3x. My doctors have nothing else to offer me besides Zelnorm. sad

Hi hungry, Have you asked your doc about Amitiza which is another rx medication for chronic constipation? It might be worth checking out.

your story sounds similar to a friend's, only she has diarrhea rather than constipation, and not gastroparesis, but exhibits a lot of the symptoms of it. (she actually was just dxed with lyme disease, but that's beside the point...) if you need any info on what you're going through, or any tips, feel free to e-mail me (adshanno@samford.edu) - i roomed with her, and we're very close friends, and i'm a nurse, so i feel like i could answer some questions... she's been on TPN for 2 years now, and she's finally going off, provided that all her labs check out on wednesday. good luck to you - i know this must be extremely difficult.
