Hi I am new to this broad and am wondering what is wrong with me.

I have been experiencing chronic consitpation for about two years now.  I take fiber supplements everyday and have given up redmeat.  There are sometimes when things are working correctly but all of a sudden I will become consitpated for months at a time and end up taking colonic herbal meds to help relieve but they only work for the 30 or 90 day timeframe.

I am becoming so frustrated with this I don't know what to do.  Unfortantely I am unemployed and do not have health insurance or money to go to a doctor, but even if I did...I'm not sure how I feel about meds.

Can someone tell what are some of the side-effects of the popular ones?

Also I never really have and cramping or stomach pains...just consipation that will last for about 5 months at a time.

Hi Christycheri,

Have you tried Miralax? It is now available OTC. It takes a few days to work but if it does work for you, its great. Everyone is different and some things that work for you may not work for others. I think its great that they made it OTC though for people that don't have insurance to visit the doctor. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water, especially as it gets hotter so you don't dehydrate which is an open invitation to make constipation worse.

Take Care

Hi christy,
Des gave a good suggestion with Miralax. I would also like to add that probitics will help the gut function more normally and regularly. You might want to try Dannon Activia yogurt, it has a money back guarantee. :-)

Thanks for the advice...I purchased some yesterday and took my first dose last night...I am hoping that it will start working soon...and hopefully I will find a job soon so I can get some health insurance to figure out what is wrong with my system.
