Hi oneday,

Do you know which tests came back positive? I have an autoimmune disease and your right, it can be scary. Did your doc give posibilites to which disease it could be? There are so many and many of them are hard to diagnose. Please let me know if you have any questions and I can try and answer them for you or point you in the right direction. You are not alone in this.

I feel relief for you. Autoimmune diseases (which include fibromyalgia, Crohn's, rheumatoid arthtris) are not easy to live with, but at least you will know what's wrong with you, and when people ask what's wrong with you, you'll have an answer, and finally, FINALLY, people will quit treating you like you're a mental-case.

Not saying that therapy isn't a good thing--I'm sure I would be depressed if I was sick like that all the time--but it's different when people send you to therapy thinking you're a liar.

Not to mention that many auto-immune diseases have treatments. May not make you 100%, certainly won't cure you, but at least there's hope of getting some medicine that will make you somewhat better. After living like this for so long, 50% better would probably have you out dancing in the streets!

I have autoimmune hyperthyroidism (Grave's disease).  When it's not in check, it's definitely caused me a lot of issues, including increased diarrhea, tachycardia, hyperreflexia, sweating, etc.  Ick.  Not fun.  Hopefully they'll be able to pinpoint exactly what's causing some of your problems.

Sarah,

You can get your rash biopsied by a dermatologist and they may be able to tell you if your rash is Lupus or not. Rashes are a classic sign of Lupus although not everyone who has Lupus has them. I get the subacute Lupus rashes and they kind of look like circles. They heal though without any scarring but they can look unsightly. I hope everything turns out okay, please do keep us informed.

Sarah,

Have you been tested for Celiac? Celiac is an autoimmune disease as well and it is not uncommon for autoimmune diseases to have more than one. Celiac has been known to be at a higher incidence level with connective tissue diseases and Celiac can also cause arthritic pain. Maybe try going gluten free for a while to see if your symptoms improve.

Des offers a good suggestion about trying a gluten-free diet since Celiac's can sometimes be hard to diagnose and you can get false negatives with the blood test.

Good thinking about trying the GF diet. At least you were able to rule it out. How long did you try the GF diet? Sometimes you have to give it some time to improve. Maybe at the very least 2 weeks GF.

I'm glad things are better for you at the mental health unit. Sounds like you have a good worker and she is on your side to get better. That helps tremendously.

I still think that it would be a good idea to see a dermatologist about getting the rash biopsied. You may get some answers. If the rash is also in other parts besides your face, you may want to biopsy the other areas so you do not risk having a scar on your face. Sometimes biopsies are the quickest way to get answers in some cases. Good luck and please let us know how it goes for you.
