sad  I'm a 38yr old recently dx with IBS after nothing showed up on my CT Scan, colonoscopy and upper GI scope.  I did the pill cam and this also showed nothing.  My gut hurts, mainly on left lower abd.  I wake up every morning feeling like I need to vomit.  Sometimes I do, other days I feel nauseated all day. I've been calling into work, and am worried this illness is going to get the best of my job. I am currently taking Levsin but I'm not getting relief.  Any ideas?  Suggestions?

Hi Guts,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)
I put a subject to your thread... Hope you don't mind. I think you'll get more replies that way.

Do you eat before bed? I noticed that if I sleep with a full tummy I wake up so nauseous and end up in the bathroom with D.
Are you taking any probiotics?
Have you tried taking an OTC antacid med, like Tagament or Prilosec? Over acid production can cause a lot of nausea. I had an EGD done and even though the doc didn't see signs of acid reflux he still thought I produced too much. Once I started on Prevacid my nausea went away.
Regarding the Levsin... Have you told your doc it's not working? There are plenty other antispasmodics out there to try.

Can you handle eating yogurt? Yogurt has live friendly bacteria (aka Probiotics) that helps the gut get balanced. I'm not sure where you're from, but can you get your hands on some Dannon Activia or Yakult? They both have an abundant amount of probiotics that have been proven to help the gut function. You can also try taking supplements if you prefer to stay away from dairy. Acidophilus and Lactobacillus seem to be the most commonly used. I take Culturelle (which is a brand of Lactobacillus GG) and I take Kyo-Dophilus (which is a combination of a few probiotics, including acidophilus).

Had you only tried the 1 antispasmodic, Levsin? Your doc didn't have you try any other before he prescribed Desipramine, an antidepressant? Don't get me wrong, antidepressants have been known to help with IBS... But did s/he discuss that with you before it was prescribed?

Thanks 7Lil,
I do try to stay away from dairy.  I will look into the supplements.  I went to the ER today for several abd pain and the CT showed possible "slight" lower lobe pneumomia.  confused My wbc's are elevated.  Now I'm on abx for 7 days.  I have no signs of pneumonia but I'll try this route. about my antidepressant...Doc didn't give me much choice.  He said this would help with the spasms.  I don't know much about IBS or what to expect or questions to ask.
