Ok. Help everyone! Please!!!!! I have bought the caplet form of Digestive Advantage after much fear. I am concerned about a few things and would to find some answers from anyone who might be able to help.

1. The package states symptoms will return and possibly worsen if you stop taking the d. advantage. Is that true? What happens if they stop making the stuff?

2. I usually am regular with gas or constipated most of the time and then every so often will get cramping and the great emptying so to speak. It can sometimes turn to diharrea, but usually is just a lot, making up for lost time I guess. Will it help with that?

3. What if any are the side effects?

4. I am currently having a great emptying due to PMS. Can you start the D. Advantage when your already having issues?

5. Drug interactions?

HELP!!!!
Always grateful for the blessings I do have!

It is just a different form of the probiotics we have all mentioned. They are not going to stop making it, sometimes people get a little gassy in the beginning(I didn't) It is just to get your stomach in balance. NO drug interactions as it is not a drug. I is a very innocuous pill. If you stop taking it I doubt anything will happen except you will probably be back where you started after a few days. It is very safe. Quit worrying so much.

It's good to be cautious when starting something new, but in this case you'll be good to go.  Like Canyonbabe said, Digestive Advantage is simply a brand name for a particular blend of probiotics (many of which can be found in regular ol' yogurt); many people on this forum use this brand as well as other brands of probiotic blends.  You might want to start off taking less than the recommended dose at first; some people experience an increase in gas in the first couple of days.  It's kind of like if you start taking a fiber supplement all of a sudden, you might notice increased gas - but it will go away on its own in no time.

Good luck - probiotics have helped many people combat their symptoms of IBS (constipation and diarrhea alike) and hopefully it will work for you.

P.S. Scared, I just used my official "moderator" powers for the first time - you accidentally posted this thread twice so I deleted the duplicate thread (which did not have any responses).

Hi scared,
As the other 2 ladies have mentioned... DA is a probiotic. The worst it will do is give you gas in the beginning. But, it WILL go away. There are no drug interactions, and you WILL NOT get worse if you stop taking it. As already mentioned, you will most likely just go back to how you are feeling now if/when you stop it.
Definitely try it religiously for at least 1 month and see what happens. DA worked great for me and many others... Hopefully it will work the same for you.
Good luck!

Scared,
Definitely let us know how it works for you. If you don't notice anything after the month is up (assuming you bought a 1 month supply), switch to a different probiotic.

I usually only take probiotics when I have been on antibiotics or have been sick or something else seems to get my guts tore up and a couple-three weeks on them fixes me right up and I'm just as good when I go off them; no backsliding. That being said, my guts aren't tore up all the time like some people's, which is why I can go on and off of them with impunity; for people who find they give them relief everyday, then yes, they might go back to the way they were before, but I agree, they'll not get worse.

Keri, be thankful you don't have to continually take probiotics. I do. For people with unexplained IBS, like me, it is a bit harder to control our bowels. I think for members who have IBS due to no gall bladder, like yourself, it might be a little easier to stay away from probiotics.
I have been taking probiotics every day for over a year now... it has made a great difference in my life so I feel no need to stop taking them.

Not to worry. I have been taking Digestive Advantage/IBS for about 3 months. I have encountered no side effects. I can't help you with the issue of getting off of it, because I haven't done that and can't imagine trying to live normal without it. It has made me a new person. The occurrences I've had have reduced significantly and the severity has also. yeah To me, it's worth staying on.

Digestive Advantage-IBS is very safe and you should notice elimination of your IBS within 3 days.  At least, that's how it worked for me.  It is totally safe.  I don't plan on going off of the product.  I finally have my life back again!

I guess I should try and stop letting fear keep me from trying this product, especially since I bought it. Is there a good time to start? Can you take it after a bad night? So no side effects? With or without food?

Don't worry, you can take it any time you want. What does the label say? I think some people split their probiotic dosage between a.m. and p.m. but I'm not sure about that particular brand. Just think about it like you're taking a vitamin supplement; it's not going to hurt you whatsoever if you take it as recommended (except you may notice a little gassiness in the first day or so like some have mentioned). I really hope it works for you!

Does this product have any benefits for the IBS with predominant C patient?  My experience with probiotics has not been terribly positive.  Folks who favor IBS-D seem to respond better to many of the treatments currently available (anti-spasmodics, anti-depressants, etc) so I tend to shy away from many of these products.

Ive been taking DA twice a day (once a day didnt work for me) with my breakfast and dinner, every day for the past six months..and let me tell you after a month or two my IBS has almost completely disappeared. Ive only had diarrhea very rarely (maybe once a month..as compared to 5 times a day as I used to have it) because of something ridiculous i ate (like an entire bag of candy..im dumb lol) and I cannot imagine what I would do without it. I can finally live a normal 17 year old life. :)

Hey blondie,
So glad to read it's working for you! :-)
Which DA do you take - pills or chewables?

I don't think it would stop. It says it may take up to 2 weeks to normalize your stomach. Gurgly is good. Better than nothing moving at all.
