Hello everyone,

I am sorry to bother you all again. I have a question. I have been waiting the last few days fearing an attack of cramping and diharrea after having beeon constipated for several days. Well, it came yesterday. I had one normal bowel movement followed by anvattack of cramping and pooping which started out normal and moved to loose. The attack lasted about 30-45mins. I had been doing fine after that. I ate a normal dinner last night, breakfast and lunch today. I am now experiencing a second attack of gas, pain and very lose bowels. This is not the norm for me. I rarely get attacks two days in a row. I don't think its a virus since I was fine to eat in between. At this point, I don't seem to have any other kinds of symptoms. Knock on wood. I even did a 50mins cardio and weight training video today. I did try digestive advantage last week but have not been regular in taking it and have been eating activia yogurt for the last week. COuld that have thrown things off? HELP!!!!!
Always grateful for the blessings I do have!

Hi scared,

If this has been happening more frequently lately, it may be that you are moving from IBS-C to IBS-A (alternating). Symptoms to change like this are not unheard of in IBS and I frequently change usually back and forth between IBS-C and IBS-A. My whole story began with IBS-D so go figure. Are you taking fiber? This usually can help with both D and C so it may be worth a shot if you haven't tried. Just remember to start off slow. Hope things get better for you.

It has stopped at least for now. Mom had a bout of diharrea today too so I am not sure what is going on. I still feel icky, but ok. I have started eating grape nuts every other day. I think maybe eating a chick pita and fries last night bacon egg and cheese biscuit for bkfst and chick salad for lunch may have been too much after an attack or mom and i have something. Either way it sucks. My dad is terminally ill on oxygen and having us both down leaves him with no care but what he does for himself. i hate that.

Tummy,

I appreciate all your advice. I actually do not have attacks but once a month or so and haven't really had a lot of diet problems. The Activia really seems to help me so far. You are right, I need to take the DA on a regular basis. Since last Thursday I have had three attacks of gas, pain and loose bowels, formed but loose.

I started a new cardio workout and I think its changing my symptoms. I started my period tonight and I didn't even see it coming. I am pretty sure that my period is the reason for all these attacks. I hope this is not going to become the norm. Since the one or two attacks Ive been getting a month always happen during my cycle.

I used to have attacks several times and/or all night every night. Birth Control pills are to blame!
Always grateful for the blessings I do have!

I think you're right that the period probably brought on the sudden, unexplained bowel problems. I used to get constipated right before I had mine. As I was never regular, this was about the only way I knew it was coming. Sounds like you might have a similar problem; when your bowels go off, suspect Aunt Flo is coming to visit.

I have not had an IBS attack now in ten years, I changed my diet completely to whole grains, fruits, veggies and lean protein plus found ways of calming myself from stress. I had it so bad for a year I thought i would never get well. my doctor put me on donatol for the cramps and pain, but the diet change for me seemed to work wonders plus a change in personnel at work. I was literally stressed into cramps and the alternating constipation and diarrhea. I disliked some things that were going on at work so talked to my supervisor and some changes were made so the atmosphere became much less strained. I know that now there are several new medications that work really well so do see your doctor at once. I was put on a new med but I was so allergic to it I broke out in huge hives. good luck. :-)

Welcome to the forum, blastit...

I'm so glad that you were able to get better and have not had any problems. I have changed my diet drastically too and although I am not completely symptom free, I have gotten so much better. I do take Miralax too but didn't notice the major change until I started eating differently. The combination works for me. So happy to hear that you are doing well re: your IBS.

Yikes, get on a good probiotic and take it faithfully, even if you start to feel better, continue taking it...a good one that I use is primadophilus reuteri made by natures way...digestive advantage has alot of un-necessary things in it like dyes, sugar alcohol, preservatives and such which can wreak havoc on an IBSer.

I do great with the primadophilus and I have IBS as well as crohns...I had lactose intolerance but not anymore, the primadophilus aids with lactose intolerance along with high cholesterol and vaginal health.

Also, regarding your periods, I have found that my bowel behaviour has changed alot over the yrs of me suffering with even just the crohns, so it could be that your periods are doing the same...with me I never know what to expect around and during that time of the month, and it never used to be that way (so noticable especially) like it is now.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)
