My doc dx'ed me with IBS just off symptoms. I've never had tests done. But my mother swears up and down that my symptoms started after I hefted a super heavy recliner and that it's a hernia. I started researching it today, because I'm miserable and IBS doesn't "fit".

I have a TON of gas. All the time. No matter what I eat/don't eat. It never seems to make a difference. I do NOT have the severe C or D of IBS, occasionally I will get one or the other, but never more extreme than most people. I have acid reflux, that I didn't have prior to lifting the recliner. My stomach hurts to push on it sometimes. A lot of abdominal pain with the gas, going up into my chest and just a horrid pressure feeling until the gas is relieved.

The dx of IBS was kinda tossed on me as it being a "side dish" of fibromyalgia. Now I'm second guessing my doc. Has anyone ever had a hiatal hernia? Are the symptoms I'm having more like a hernia? Or IBS?

Help!!!
I'm not procrastinating----I'm still doing yesterday!!!!
I have no medical training, any medical opinions expressed in my posts are just that....opinions.

A very large percent of the population have hiatal hernias/ It depends on how big it is. It is above the stomach in the esophagous, you know. I would doubt that you caused it as it usually is a genetic thing. You could have caused one in the small intestine, I think. I have always had tons of gas, lots of acid problems, going thru a really bad time right now and nothing is helping but this comes and goes. An endoscopy will tell if you have one but I don't really think that is the problem. Yes, that horrible pressure on the esophagous and in my case the throat is terrible. Once I belch it is gone for a while then comes back right away. Have been going thru this a week now. Anyway, to get rid of the gas try some Pepto and Gas pills with simethicone. If you never had this before you hoisted the chair then you may have twisted something in the intestine but I don't think the hiatal would do this.
