hi guys--

i posted the other day about my constant passing of mucus and wet anus feeling. (gross! sorry!). this has been going on for a little more than a month. i was diagnosed with ibs-c several years ago though it was under control until recently when i had to start taking iron for anemia.

the scope showed that my colon was healthy except for some internal hemorrhoids. doc said that most likely my ibs was causing me to secrete excess mucus and that + hemmies was probably causing my symptoms. she said that lots of her ibs patients have mucus symptoms.

i've had ibs for 6 years now and have never had anything like this before. if you have can you tell me about it cause i am feeling like a big weirdo!

You are not a weirdo... trust me :-)

It could be that you never noticed the mucus before. I had IBS many years before I was "brave" enough to inspect my BM or the toilet paper so who knows what I missed. The hemmies are inflammed and inflammation can create pus which is like mucus so its all very normal. Did she give you some suppositories or something for the hemmies to heal? With the mucus and possible treatment, it might be a good idea to wear something like a panty liner towards the back so you can continually freshen up by cleaning yourself up and changing them out when you go to the bathroom, aloe baby wipes are good in addition.

And don't be worried about being "gross" here... we are all used to it and we live with it everyday... besides where else can you go to talk about this stuff :)

thanks dbab!

don't hemmies normally heal up after a week or two? i've been having these symptoms for longer. i asked her if i should use anything for them and she said no, which kinda surprised me.

i have had mucus before IN my stool and noticed it, but not this type of discharge and constant leaking feeling.

I have had bleeding one and it stopped bleeding in about 48 hours max. Not sure about the mucous stopping.

I sometimes get a wet feeling, even though I wipe and wipe and wipe and I know I'm dry. Only happens when my guts are acting up. Has to be something on the inside that's being overly sensitive, and it just makes it FEEL like it's wet on the outside.

I've not heard of hemmies causing mucus, but it doesn't sound like yours are messed up--meaning nothing to heal up. Internal hemmroids, as best I understand them, are a permanent fixture once you have them; they don't go away. However, if you notice a spot of blood, then that's them being irritated. When they itch, that's them healing up.
