I suffer from IBS-C and am trying really hard to combat it.  Because of all the problems of Rx drugs I prefer not to go down that rode again and am currently taking Advantage and fiber capluses everyday (helps a little but not much).  I also cut out beef (since it takes 72 hours to digest which makes things horrible for me) and I workout 30 mins six days a week.

I was wondering if cutting out all fried foods and limiting diary intake would also help?  I also notice that things get a little rough if I eat ground turkey so I am probably am going to have to give that up as well.

I just feel at my wits end! I do eat cereal with whole grains and only pasta that is whole grain, but want to know what I am missing.

So I am kinda curious as to what other IBS-C suffers diets look like and outside of Rx drugs what else are they taking to manage their syptoms.

You might want to add a bit more roughage in the form of dried fruits.  A handful of dried apricots might be the ticket for you.  Usually lactose intolerance will result in the opposite effect (diarrhea) so that might not be your issue here, but you never know what'll work until you try it.  Have you tried taking a fiber supplement to increase your stool's amount of water and bulk?

I know this is going to sound really, really strange but I cut out all carbonated beverages and anything with fructose in it and that has really helped me.

I've had IBS-C for about 10 years now and it got to the point where I could hardly make it to work, only about 10 minutes away without the cramps starting, and I stopped travelling outside my town completely.

I hate the thought of taking medication and there isn't a lot of medications for IBS-C in canada so I read that fructose, or fruit sugars, can irritate the colon. I stopped all fructose and within about a week I was having a BM every morning. It's still hard and sometimes small but the cramps are only happening about 1 or 2 times a month now.

Fructose intolerance is actually extremely common.  I think 1/3 people actually has some sort of fructose intolerance, which is why more people have GI problems now - everything comes with high fructose corn syrup.  Usually there are the same symptoms are lactose intolerance (diarrhea and flatulence) but there's no hard and fast rules when it comes to the digestive system.

I just learned about all this stuff in biochemistry so it's on the top of my mind right now...

Let us know how it goes...I'm interested in how diet can play a major role in GI disorders.
