A little history, 6 months ago I went to the emergency room because my throat felt like it had something stuck in it.  Thought I had ingested something while doing some home imrovement projects.  Sent me to an ENT and he said my throat was extremely red so he put me on antibotics and steroids helped for almost three weeks. Then, symptoms came back.  Went to different ENT(insurance wouldn't pay for the good doc) and he said my vocal chords were severly inflammed due to allergies so I started shots.  Two months later symptoms get worse start getting the lump in the throat sensation and dry throat.  Put me on Prilosec didn't help.  Put me on Nexium but I started getting some bad side effects.  Then, I asked for Aciphex.  It worked great and I started to get my appetite back.  But I started noticing something.  If I ate a meal of any size, it feels like it was sitting in my stomach for half the day.  If I eat a cup of oatmeal it sits there for hours.  My throat really hasn't gotten better and at times it feels like I am so full that food or something it is just sitting around my laraynx.  I had an endoscopy done and they say I have mild reflux.  I told the doc that I think I have IBS but he just ignored me.  When I was fine, I had constant bowel movements.  As soon as I would eat, I would go to the bathroom 30 minutes later.  I would have bowel movements 3-5 times a day but felt great!  Now, I have a bowel movement every two to three days and feel horrible.  I guess my question is has anyone been misdiagnosed with acid reflux when it was really the opposite.  Slow digestion.  All my doc wants to blame it on is stress because my wife had a baby around the time it started, I got a promotion, new job, and was looking at moving.  I have done everything(elevated bed, nothing to drink but water, no bad foods, taken my meds).  The only thing I am is mad because I want to get this straight ASAP!  Tim

Have you tried seeing a GI specialist?  I think that they are the best doctors to properly Dx IBS. :-)

You may have a motility problem and need something like Reglan. You can certainly have both IBS and acid reflux and a motility problem. If you get the motility taken care of the other may be better so really best to deal with that first if that is the problem. There are motility tests that can be done. The longer the food sits in your stomach the more acid your stomach will make to digest it. At the same time you don't want it to go thru you too fast. My other suggestion is that your stomach has become out of balance and is not digesting food properly so try a Probiotic like Digestive advantageIBS or C and see if that helps. They can tell on the endo if you have reflux so you probably have that to some degree. Think you need another trip to gastro Dr. that did the endo.
