Well, I'm not new to this site. At first I thought Iwas suffering anxiety/stress/panic attacks. I've been in and out of the hospital for shortness of breath and just this heavy feeling in my stomach area causing the shortness of breath. They brushed it off as being a new mother/postpartum... I was getting sick of it. I called 911 earlier today beause i've just been having so much discomfort. They found the curse! (so i hope) I have an impacted bowel.. it showed up in my x-rays. The doctor said its pretty crowded. They gave me an enema, suppository, and a laxative type juice that I had to drink. It burned when it went down... ? then i went to the bathrom but nothing but water/little pieces of stool is coming out. They sent me home and said I should be pooping all night, haha but I'm NOT! I only went twice and it was really runny. I go back tomorrow for a follow up. I als had like gross slimy discharge (looked like poop) coming from my belly button. I called the doctor she said it's normal. I've also noticed when I drink fluids, well water i get this wetness feeling in different spots... hopefully thats normal too? That's just worrying me right now, the feeling of wetness almost like my water is just going wherever it wants? i dont know, I stress alot about little things. Is this normal? I even felt the burning sensation when I took that drink they gave me. They gave me pottasium pills because it was low. They drew my blood, gave me a shot to help the pain (when i first came in the ER) and a anti-inflammatory shot.... then did an ultrasound and x0ray and that's when they found out. I was so relieved in a way that this could finally be treated! Now i'm thinking okay nothing is coming out...and i gt the wetness feeling after drinking? is this normal!? pls share your expierences or give advice. I know i'm being seen tomorrow but I want an answer now!! :S or something!

Did you have a C-section? If you were cut open when you had the baby, that can cause some temporary nerve damage that has you feeling all sorts of weird things all over the place. But your body will eventully settle down and heal.

Otherwise, you may be feeling weird things just because your guts are so backed up that not much is getting through. The best thing to do is to let the hospital help you get that impaction out, then see a GI to run some tests on you to see why you got so bad. If you've been on pain medicines, they are SO bad about causing constipation; that could well be the source of your problem. Other meds could also be the source. Or your guts may have slowed down and aren't pushing food through as fast as they need to, which may mean meds to help it hurry up and/or a modified diet.

A GI can also see if you have a kink in your intestines that's causing the back up (some people are prone to developing them) or some other form of blockage. See, looking with an Xray shows that you have stool backed up, but it can't necessarily see what's causing it (if anything physical). That's why you need to get it out ASAP (because bowel blockages can be dangerous and the longer they're in, the harder they are to get out) and then see a GI as quickly as possible to get some tests done to better see if there's anything wrong with your intestines right there.

Newmother, I post on crohns and this does not sound right at all to me. I can't believe they let you go home before you went to the bathroom. I am no doctor but I worry about things like preforation. I don't see how stool coming out of your belly button could ever be normal. I am going to ask the people on crohns to read this and respond and I really hope you find relief soon.

Hi I am from the crohns site as well and this does not sound normal at all to me. I would not wait for an appointment with my doctor I would go straight back to the Emergency room and demand they run more tests. I hope everything turns out ok and keep us posted

Hi Newmother, There is never anything normal about stool coming out of your belly button. Can you see anything there now? Is there maybe something that looks like a pimple? This could well be a fistula or tunnel from the bowel through the skin. IF that's the case, it can be treated and fixed, but it does need to be addressed.

If you continue having trouble passing stool, you should return to the ER. Also, if your pain gets any worse, you need immediate medical attention.

The meds they gave you are supposed to result in softening of the stool by adding water to your bowel. Make sure to keep drinking plenty of fluids to help the process and avoid dehydration. However, one course of meds is not always the answer for a fecal impaction.

Regardless of whatever you do over the weekend, you need to get an appt to see a Gastroenterologist immeidately. That should be first on your list for Monday morning. If you can't get an appt right away, ask your Primary to call the Doc's office and get you in. It's amazing how a request froma Doc can make an appt available.

I hope you find answers and relief soon.
