i hvae jsut started to get sharp pians in my back pasgage. i t raelly hurts and seem to hapen loads at mo. not raelly sure waht to do abuot. i gues it has somethnig to do wiht ibs.

anyone got any ideas?

Hi Oneday

I don't know what causes this pain or if it is always related to IBS but I do occasionally get those sharp stabbing pains too ... really is agony!!! Often to the point I can't stand or sit! Sometimes they come before a bowel movement or if I am having an IBS -C spell. Usually they ease up after a minute or two.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Incidently, my mum also gets these pains from time to time ... she has no history of IBS. But the pain can also be an indicator of haemerroids. The first time I got those pains she told me to stand on my toes and that would ease them away! It actually works too, on the occasions I can manage to do it without falling about laughing!

A hot bath might help relax your muscles. It sounds like Tizz's mother is onto something. If standing up on your tip-toes helps the pain, then that seems (to me) to imply some sort of tightening muscle. Kind of like a charlie horse of the nether region. You might look into some Yoga videos and see if any of the stretches help relieve that pain, and maybe with regular practice, keep it from occuring at all.

Also, sitting on the toilet for too long can cause muscle strain around the rectum and cause/make hemmroids worse. I know with your level of D, you spend a lot of time on the pot, but try as much as you can to have a movement, then get up. Even if you aren't ready to leave the bathroom yet because you know it's about to come back again, it's better for you to stand up and give your bottom a short break than to just continue to sit there waiting for the second round.
