I'm wracking my brain trying to 'prepare' myself --- I have a colonoscopy/Upper GI this coming Friday----and trying to prepare myself for ANY problems the doctor may find!

Anyway, do any of you have the following with your IBS:
  • Pain in mid-back
  • Pain in shoulder-blade area (especially right side)
  • Pain b/t hip bones (feels like menstural cramps)
  • Pain in lower back
  • Feel like you still have to go "b.m." even though you already went
  • Feeling like you have to urinate all of the time--then, try and go, and "nothing"
  • Pain in mid-sternum

I had both an ultrasound and Hid-a-Scan for my Gallbladder----supposedlly both came back "normal"---but, I continue to get the pains in that area!  I don't want to have any gall bladder problems---and upon the initial consult with the GI Guy---he did say that sometimes, IBS can cause pain in my Upper GI?  But, the pain in my back/mid back/shoulder blade area---and between my hips/lower back are so bad!

Thanks for any answers---advice! :-)

Hi There,

I am trying to get a diagnosis myself. My Dr. keeps saying I have IBS but has never done a colonoscopy to see if there is anything else going on. My main concern is that I have bleeding so I am worried about UC or . I have pain in mid back, under left shoulder blade and lower back. I also have the feeling of incomplete evacuation after I have gone to the bathroom at least 4 times. After I have what I can only deem an "attack" I have to urinate frequently...but what comes out is a lot less than it feels like should have come out. I already know I have celiac disease and have been treating that for 3 years but the bathroom issues still remain. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy in December but I am looking for a new Dr. since mine is not so good. I swear the aches and pains that I have are from my body just being so out of whack and exhausted. Keep us posted on what hte dr. find out and good luck to you hope you feel better soon.

Hey, Have you ever had a colonoscopy? I had some of your symptoms before I ever was pregnant and the symptoms would flare up after I ate spicy food or even just eat too much. Do you experience any of your symptoms after you eat? If went away after I had my first child. Good luck to you though!

Pain under the shoulder blades is not uncommon with gas, but if you start to hurt down into your right arm, that's often a sign of a gall bladder problem. I used to ache down my right arm and into my elbow.

You really sound like you have a trapped gas problem, though, because all of the places you mention are places where gas likes to lodge. Are you prone to constipation? Have you tried any gas relief medicines?

If your colonoscopy shows nothing, ask for a breathalyzer test to look for bad bacteria; they are notorious for producing too much gas.

Keriamon---

Thank you for answering! I never knew that the places I mentioned are common places where gas can get trapped! I don't take any meds for gas relief! I am rarely constipated either! Maybe I get constipated 1x/6 months! When I do--it's usually a day or so----and I hate it! I would rather poop 1-4 times/day like I always do!

I will ask about a breathalyzer test---interesting..............

I do have pain in my lower and mid back during attacks or gas. My chiropractor says that the nerves coming from your mid back come around to your intestines and can inflame them. Make sure you follow thru with your regular doctor, but chiropractic can help a lot!!!! It also sounds like you could have a UT or bladder infection, let us know how it goes.
Always grateful for the blessings I do have!

Veebo---
my colonoscopy went well----the GI specialist told my DH that everything looked great--no polyps, ulcers, herniations, etc... but, he took 2 biopsies anyway----he believes I have IBS---and told DH I should go back to primary MD to review it.......
