My daughter periodically has kidney stones, hemiplegic migraines, low calcium, low Vitamin D, and high phosphate.  She is on hydrochlorothizide and has osteopenia right now.  Her hands and feet swell a few times out of the week.  It doesn't really seem like she retains water like a friend of the family that has to go to dyalisis three to four times a week.  It's nothing like that but we still don' really have any answers on the swelling, weakness in the muscles, and soreness.  Can having the kidney stones periodically cause this?

God bless you.

Thanks,
Vickabee

I forgot to mention that she goes a good amount of the day (even the morning when she wakes up) without going to the restroom. She drinks 3-5 16.9 oz bottles of water also. Could this problem go along with the swelling of her hands and feet.

Thank you in advance for any info you might have.

God bless you.

Thanks,

Vickabee

Hi Vickabee,

I too have had frequent swelling of the hands and feet.  I suffer from chronic kidney stones and also take htcz.  My dr has done bloodwork during some of these episodes and has found decreased kidney function, not to an alarming rate though.  I usually drink 1 to 1 1/2 gallons of fluids a day and urinate only twice a day.  My new urologist has just found that my ureter was narrowed from birth causing urine to stay in my kidney which was also probably causing the formation of stones.

I'm having surgery monday to laser to tube open and put in a large stent for 6 weeks to see if this will help.  I don't know if your daughter could possibly have something with her tube also because mine was from birth, just a thought.

I wish you the best, blessings and peace,

Judy

Judy,

What type of test was done to find out the ureter tube was too small?

Thanks for your help.

God bless you.

Vickabee,

I had several kidney stones, first they blasted them & then they went through my back to remove them - when they did this they had to put a tube in called a nephroscopy tube to let the urine come out and let the kidney heal - they then put dye in the kidney ureter and bladder to see that there are no blockages before removing the tube - mine showed a blockage so my dr went up through the ureter and wasn't able to get to the bladder due to it narrowing and then growing closed with scar tissue. I think my actual procedure might be called a  cystoscopy.

I think they can find things wrong with the tube through this procedure because my mom has a kink in her tube and that's how they found hers.

I hope this helps.

Blessings and peace,
Judy

I swell all the time. I also take lasix with my bp meds.

You might want to ask your doctor if she can take small doses of Lasix, I did and its helped so much.
