Has anyone used the Azo  strips before to confirm a UTI? I have been not feeling well and have had some kidney pain (on both sides this time) so my sister-in-law recommended testing my urine at home. It tested very positive for leukocytes. Are these test reliable? I called my doc and he sent me for an urinalysis.

Hi and yes I have used the strips that come along with the AZO packs. The time or two that I did use them, they were accurate for me as well.  UTI's are so painful sad
I hope you feel better soon.

This my second one since September so they are doing a culture this time so they can prescribe a more specific antibiotic. The bad news is that I have to wait three days. At least I don't have extreme burning or urgency this time just kidney discomfort and I am used to that.

P.S. My sister-in-law tested postive with the AZO strips on Monday and her doc called her yesterday to tell her his test came back negative. The poor thing is so confused. She has had one heck of a time in the last year after her hysterectomy. She had such a severe bladder infection after she got home the had to take her back in an ambulance and ended up in ICU. I tried to talk her into joining us but she won't for some reason.

Thanks for the support

Three days until you can begin a different antibiotic?? I'm glad to hear that you don't have too much burning but you know to be watchful for the fever and chills that sometimes come along with the horrid UTI's.  I have had a few of them, and then I was getting to the point that I had all of the symptoms, would go to the doctor and they would say..no infection..sorry we can't help you, and finally I was diagnosed with the Insterstitial cystitis, so sometimes I have a difficult time telling the difference betweent the two.

That is terrible for your sister-in-law!! It sounds like she was in the beginning stages of an infection, bless her heart!! Most likely she wasn't feeling "well" when she went to the doctor in the first place even though her test was negative.  I hope she is on the mend very soon, and you as well!

Finally my doctor read my test results after I called the office again. The nurse said I had a UTI and prescribed Cipro once again.
