I had an old friend drop a bombshell on me the other day. He told me he had kiddney/renal failure. I'm not sure how I'm suppose to take that kind of new since I haven't seen him in about 2 years or so. I'm not sure what to think. Help.

Hey Hara! So sorry to hear about your friend! The good news is renal failure has come a long way in the last few years! I have a friend, who is on here occasionaly that went into kidney failure and was on dialysis for several years and then her kidney function started to improve and she eventually got off of dialysis. Now, her funcion is better than mine. So don't give up hope...there is always a chance for a good change. Do you know if your friend is on dialysis? What medications? Do you have any specific questions about renal failure?

I wouldn't know where to begin. Yes he is on dialysis 3 days a week and about 13 medications now.
He says a baby eats more than he does right now. At first the DR's thought it might be his heart but it wasn't.

Hi Hara! I'm Amy's friend that was on dialysis and now doing great! Your friend is blessed to have someone who cares enough to make an effort to understand! God Bless you! Dialysis is tough and it can make you weak and drained, especially at first. Your friend needs lots of support and encouragement. It is VITAL to follow fluid restriction, NEVER EVER MISS dialysis or leave early and follow DIET very carefully. ALL of these things have a profound effect on your outcome!

Like Amy said, miraculously, my kidney function improved and I was able to come off. My doc did not think it was possible. Tell your friend there is always hope. Is transplantation an option for you friend? I will be praying for you and your friend. Please let me know if you have any specific questions that I can answer. Been there, done that! Judy
