Hi

For the last 2 months I have been getting pain in the kidney area. I have had a sharp pain which comes and goes on both sides also if I lean over to one side it hurts. I have also noticed that I have had to pee a lot more often especially over night maybe getting up 2-3 times in the night. I have also been experiencing lots of excess gas and tummy bloating and the last symptom has been lose stools.

I had a bad UTI at the beginning of the year which was caused by the infection e coli. I caught this after being catheterized after on operation to sort an umbilical hernia. I also of a range of anxiety disorders and I am under a lot of stress at the moment which could be causing the symptoms??

My doctor wants to rule out other causes so I had blood tests done which came back all clear and I am due this week to have a full ultrasound of my kidneys and urinary tract to look for any stones, blockages etc etc. Does any one have or had similar symptoms and could this be caused by kidney problems?

I was just wondering if you had your tests done and how they went? I had so many kidney stones in the past and I know exactly how very bad they can be. hopefully this is not happening to you.

Please let me know

Hi

I had my ultra sound done and they came back clear. I was at the doctor today and she has has got me to do some more blood tests this time to check for diabetes and also my thyroid function as thyroid issues run in my family.

If they come back clear I think it may just be down to stress/anxiety as I am under a lot of pressure at the moment I just want to know. As im writing this my kidneys are aching so very uncomfortable. thanks for replying to my post I thought no one was going to answer.

smilewinkgrin   you are welcome. Glad everything looks good, no stones. yeah

I had terrible pain in my left kidney about 5 years ago. Had the cat scan and x-rays. Found 5 stones. two in left, three in right. Between July 5 and the last weekend in Sept. I had 4 of them removed. The last one (2.2 cm) was scheduled for Oct. Well.....went in for emergency surgery because in that short amount of time my 2.2 went to a 10.5. This, thank god, is the last stone I have ever had. I had many before that and also had lots of uti's. Had the stents, lythotripsy, laser......I even had the 48 hour urine count. Was told to limit my proteins, kidneys cannot handle it properly. And, to follow up in a year. I never did. The whole idea of knowing there is a stone and always wondering when it was going to hit was just to much for me to bear. so, now, I just wait out the aches in my left kidney and if it changes or if the urine color changes I go over to my pcp for a quick urine check. So far, so good.

Had the thyroid issue too. functioned properly but was way to big. Doc took it out and found cancer. Had radioiodine therapy and am now on synthroid. Doing so much better but hate the hot flashes that come with being on higher doses of the synthroid (doc said it was necessary because of the cancer.)

Its funny but up till I hit 40 (50 now) I never had any health issues but now they seem to be piling on at a fairly fast rate.

I currently visit the fibro and lupus forum but almost never the kidney or sjogrens one - they seem to be much slower in responses.

Hope you have a good weekend and keep me posted on how you are doing. take care

Hi

Sounds like you have had a tough time of it. I heard kidney stones are very very painful so relived I do not seem to have any. Having an anxiety disorder does not help as I am constantly worried about my health.

Having a really tough time at the moment just lost my job due to medical capability and I am now in the appeal process and looks like it will go all the way to an employment tribunal so very stressed/anxious and depressed at the moment which could be the likely cause of all my symptoms at the moment. I hardly slept last night due to bad pain in the kidney area had to take a lot of painkillers.

I have a good doctor hence all the tests as she wants to rule out other possible causes. You have a good weekend to thanks again.

I had the worst weekend. I mean I had to work Saturday so that cut the weekend in half and yesterday we had a b-day party for my now 3 yr old grandson. The weather turned out to be good and he enjoyed all his gifts but the rest of us just weren't into it. about an hour before the party actually got under way we found out that our son and his 3 boys were in a car accident. My stepson was angry and drove off from a stopped position in a huff and the spare tire blew. The vehicle overturned several times and 2 of the 3 boys were ejected from the car. To make a long story short, all the boys and their father are ok. They all suffered much bruising and the two had to have stitches in their mouths but no broken bones and no internal injuries. They are all so very lucky and we all feel much relief but it sure dampened the festivities.

I sincerely hope that my step son has learned his lesson and that the boys too will all keep their seat belts on when in the car, even if its not moving, you just never know.

Sorry to hear about your job. hope all works out for you
Denita

Kindey's are strange things...
I had problems with them troughout my teens, not so much anymore now thank goodness! I've been in hospital 3 times of which one time was near fatal and they have never ever discoverd what exactly is wrong with them. My right kidney just has a tendency to get infected or plain and simple quit on me.
After my last and worst stay in hospital it started to stabilize i still have occsaional infections but no so much so.

I hope your problem too will pass. I don't know what it could be though.. How long has this been carrieng on? And do you have trouble peeing? With trouble i mean, having to squeeze desperatly to get it out or a burning or tingling sensation when going?

Hi

It has been going on for 2 months now. I have not been getting any pain when peeing but I have been going more often especially during the nighttime. I also feel sometimes my bladder is not fully emptying and I have suffered incontinence.

Hmm it doesn't realy sound like an infection...
ave u checked if any or your meds could affect your kidneys caus i know a lot of meds do... There is a lot of stuff i can't take because it could rebound on them. Maybe u should go see a urologist if it keeps up, i'm sure they could help

Hi Hibee, I read your postings & wonder if you may have Loin Pain Haematuria Syndrome. Please see the LPHS support group on Facebook or email me at alison.banister@ntlworld.com. the symptoms are renal colic type pain (severe loin pain with or without groin pain & haematuria). the pain is as bad as having kidney stones. Opiate pain killers are required to treat the pain. There are 100's of us with this condition. Also the kidney can be hypermobile & drop down causing severe pain. Do get in touch & you may find an answer to your renal pain.

Hi Allys

Thanks for the info. I have never heard of Loin Haematuria Syndrome so will check it out. I am still getting bad kidney pain but have had blood tests done and an ultra sound which did not find any thing like stones etc etc. I am under a lot of stress/anxiety at the moment and my doctor has put it down to that but im not to sure.

If you had lphs the pain would be horrible.  Re the anxiety I found that Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) helped me. See www.tir.org for details.  It is very good for anxiety & depression.  I had both & got better by working with TIR over a year. It is a kind of Cognitive behavioural therapy.

I have had kidney pain for the past two months. I've had ultrasounds and urine tests, but after all that, the doctors ended up telling me to live on painkillers because there was "nothing wrong".
I then took my mother in with me, they listened a bit and referred me to a specialist - who I'm seeing in a months time. The pain is very frustrating, it has taken me out of work and is about to force me to go on benefit payments/centrelink :/.

What ended up happening to your problem?

The renal failure is a chronic general term that encompasses any illness, disorder/ condition of kidneys. The vital internal organs placed in upper abdomen are called kidneys. In general, people have two kidneys in the form of beans.

Common types of severe kidneydisease:
• Acute renal failure
• Chronic renal failure
