Okay so things are going great and then yesterday I go from coughing 2xs from waking to late evening to barely being able to breath, coughing so hard it feels like I dislocated a rib or two (again), a raw throat, having breathing in hurt, and feeling very weak. I am on antibiotics so this is being taken care of, I know what it is- bronchitis- my winter companion that at least half the time turns into pneumonia. Thank goodness the OB gave me a script for the z-pack with 4 refills and said to refill it if I got a sinus infection or began showing signs of bronchitis or pneumonia since I can't always get a same day apt with his office and he wants me to avoid the ER because of the germs there. I have an apt Wednesday so I am going to see someone- the office is open half a day Monday and is fully booked and closed Tuesday. The thing is I thought I was going to make it through this winter without getting this sick- I had been doing so well. I am wondering how I got this when 99% of my time is spent at home in bed.

I don't want to feel like this, I hate having all my strength sapped by these boughts with lung infections. Does anyone else get this sick this fast?

I'm not surprised you're sick Redrose.  Your body is dealing with A LOT right now.  It's very common to get bronchitis or pneumonia from lupus. It's called lupus incuded pneumonia.  Not contracted by being out and around people at all.  It's the disease. I got this 1999, and again in 2003.  Expect to be sick if your body is run down, coming off your meds, and being pregnant. That's a lot for a healthy body to go through, let alone someone with lupus.  I noticed my pneumonia come on really fast.  Took me by surprise actually. So, it's an unfortunate bit of reality for you.  Sorry.

I was actually supposed to begin the taper tonight but since I am ill we decided to delay it. I had actually begun to feel a little better since getting back on the Imuran but then out of the blue I get so sick so darned fast. It happens every time I get bronchitis or pneumonia. The most frustrating part is this has been happening since I was a baby- before I developed enough symptoms to be classified as having an autoimmune condition. I have also had severe headaches- migraines or lupus headache no one is positive which- since I was very little apparently I would hold my head rocking and holding my head with tears streaming down my face (I am told it began by age 1). I had just hoped that eventually the lung issues or the headaches would end. The pregnancy has actually caused the headaches to be less intense even though they happen more frequently. My whole life I have had 2 winters where I got nothing worse than a cold. My rheumy does not think the lupus is the cause of the lung infections, though she does find it odd I have so many problems with it. I had asked if the lupus could be causing these infections, I also have asthma that is only bad when I get lung infections or severe allergic responses.

Hubby has gone to the store to find a humidifier or vaporizer because in the shower breathing doesn't hurt and when the bathroom is still steaming breathing is not painful. I also feel like I can breath easier and deeper. It looks like the house is way too dry and making things worse. So maybe I will be able to be more comfortable. It might even help me get better faster. I know my throat is raw because of sinus drainage, having to breath through my mouth, and dryness from the sjogrens.
