So I went to my first pilates class tonight at our community center.  My friend came with me and we had fun!  I wasn't the only stiff, flexibly challenged person there!  What a relief.  We did have a few good laughs though when it came to doing the balance exercises.  I was all over the place.  I needed something to hang onto.  So that was pretty funny.  All in all, I loved it.  My abs are already telling me, "you're gonna hurt tomorrow. HA-HA, sucker!"  I have 7 more classes to do, and I'm really going to enjoy them.

So I wanted to spread a little light heartedness in the forum tonight.  If anyone has the chance to do pilates, DO IT!  It's not hard on the joints at all, and it was really easy for me to do.  If it's easy for me, anyone can do it!  I felt energized at the end!  Lots of focus on breathing, and using the ab muscles to lift my legs and back, etc.  Very interesting stuff!  It didn't hurt my arthritic neck either.  That was a concern, but I'm just fine!

So sleep on this tonight gals.  Look into pilates if you want a great way to tone the old bod and mind!!

Lots of love,
Ginny

ginny, you are brave to go to a class :) I have a pilates tape at home that I just love. You are right that it is very easy on your body. I have a more advanced tape too that I used to do, but there is no way I could do it now. The nice thing about pilates and yoga is that you can find classes or tapes/dvd's that are very basic and easy on your body. Next week I'm going to try doing my tape again a few times a week.

I hope you aren't too sore today :)

Well!  I'm not stiff and sore this morning.  I slept like a rock too.  Yes, Rosie we do have homework.  We can practice the exercises we learned and she wants us to be very aware of our posture this week.  No slouching!  Also, she said if we can be concious of contracting our ab muscles on a regular basis.  Just sitting around with our abs all tight.  Sounds weird, but I'll give it a try!

I think getting a DVD of a pilates workout is a great idea too Hippi.  I hope you can do your tape and feel just wonderful!  Oh Rosie, you're doing what I"m doing.  I can only handle 10 mintues of exercise on the eliptical. More than that and I feel physically ill. So I'm taking it really slow too.  I think it's wise for us to do that!

Thanks for the encouragement gals!

Sounds like fun Ginny, I may have to check into classes or find me a video to do at home. I've also thought about Yoga too. Thanks for sharing!

Great post!  I have to say that I'm more of a home video type girl when it comes to flexible exercises.  Not to be gross or anything, but I seem to "have a bout with gas" when I do pilates or yoga.  It's something my best friend and I have done together and have had an equally challenging ab workout from all the laughter.  Keep up the good work:)

Hahahaha, Firebabe, you kill me!  I was tootin' up a storm myself during that class.  Didn't help that I had pasta and meat sauce for supper right before I went!  Oh man, the farts can be brutal for me too.  That is funny, thanks for sharing.  It's not gross to bring up stuff like that, plus it gives us all a laugh, which we really need!

Thanks Stacie!  I'm thinking of getting a home video too.  My hubby does yoga once a week at work!
