Hi. I was wondering, with Lupus, do you have to have redness and inflammation with your joint pain, or do some just have the joint pain?

Thanks!

Yup, either way.  I have had inflammation with no pain, and then inflammation with pain. It's a gong show.....

Redness and swelling with pain are usually indicative of RA or injury. Lupus can cause swelling with pain or pain with no outward evidence of swelling. There is a tissue that lines our joints that can swell without external signs and it is very painful.

I have a lot of joint pain with no "visible" inflammation but my rheumy can feel it in my joints.

No visible pain, usually. Rheumy always seems to find the joints, though! LOL

I have only had the redness and swelling one time when I had gout! Ouch! Usually there is no redness or swelling. Judy
