Hi Joinery.

myositis is not MCTD but can be a part of it if you had, say: Sclerorderma, myositis and lupus. MCTD is mixed connective tissue disease, meaning there are three or more. There is a post in Lupus Resources about UCTD vs. MCTD . . . link to Lupus Resources at the end of my signature.

Your age is a really good thing. The older we are when we finally get dx'd the less likely there will be serious complications. Not 100%, but a very good indicator.

Hello

The Quinacrine is another anti malarial that works very well in combination with Plaquenil for disease modifying especially helping with skin and joints. You get more anti malarial power without increasing the risks of eye toxicity that comes with very high doses of Plaquenil. Quinacrine does not affect the eyes.

Prednisone is the mainstay of the mysositis component but since lengthy treatment with steroids is not desirable because of the serious side effects, an immunosuppresssant steroid sparing medicine is often used to reduce the steroid dose, like Imuran or Methotrexate. Physiotherapy is an important part of the treatment since the mysositis is affecting the muscles.
It sounds as if you have an overlap of lupus and dermatomyositis.
