Should I be concerned by this never ending fever?

Hi everyone

Thanks to the advice from my last post. I followed the advice and saw a new Rheumy and she is much more thorough than the last one. My concern is that I have ran a fever everyday since Sunday it never goes lower than 99.5 and rises to nothing over 101. When I saw the Rheumy she did not seem concerned but I normally run 95-96 degrees no wonder I am always cold. The reason I am concerned is that I started having blurred vision last month still have it. After having a 4 day hospital stay for a leaking lumbar puncture I have felt terrible. 3 weeks ago I developed colitis and took Flagyl and cipro for 2 weeks. A few days after fever started stomach cramps returned daily but not constant like with colitis. I feel like my immune system is in full gear since I get over one illness and another started the next day. So should I just ignore fever and wait until my gastro appt in 2 weeks and rheumy follow up in 3 weeks. Also I should tell you my B-12 was 1500 and the only vitamin I take only has 15 mcg of b-12 and I used to take B-12 injections 2 years ago for very low B-12 and even with B-12 injections it never rose above 450. So why is it now high of course doctors not concerned. I am just sick of this fever, the fever headache that comes with it, the fatigue, and chills. It is getting really old. So any advice or any info to ease my fears would be greatly appreciated.

FYI: my brother has Chrones but my colonoscopy was negative for Chrones.

kncb, I wouldn't ignore your fever, especially since you usually have such a low normal temp. It does sound like your immune symptom is going kind of crazy with how sick you have been. I wonder if the lumbar leak was really hard on your body and threw you into a flare. I think I remember people saying here that you should call your rheumy or pcp if your fever gets over 100.5. Regardless of your fever I think you should call your rheumy and let her know how sick you are. I can't think of much to help with the fever, fatigue, and chills. Maybe a tepid bath would help bring your temp down a little if it didn't make the chills worse.

I really hope you get some relief - you sound so miserable. Please take care of yourself. (((((Hugs)))))

Hi kncb95,
I would just give my Rheumy a call if I were you. It's not unusual for lupies to run low grades but with everything else you have going on (especially the lumbar puncture). I'm sorry if this is redundant, i've been away for a few days; have you actually been diagnosed with Lupus? I found it interesting that your brother has Chrohn's disease. I have lupus and my brother has crohn's. I sure hope you get to feeling better. Take care. Judy

Thanks for the advice I think I will call my PCP Monday and start there. If it rises what temp should I visit the ER? Of course I have had enough of hospitals for a lifetime. I Know with healthy people it is 104 or above. But I am not sure with people with autoimmune diseases.

I have not been diagnosed with Lupus I was diagnosed with MCTD and Sjogren's in 05 but for a year all my Antibodies for these diseases have been neg. my ANA has also been negative. Which of course makes my last Rheumy to just look at me like you crazy woman there is nothing wrong with you even though she is holding a chart with my name on it with 1 year worth of positive labs done by my Rheumy before her. Sometimes I just want to hit all my doctors over the head with my Huge chart and say I AM NOT CRAZY I AM SICK AND IF YOU ARE SO SURE THAT IT COULD NOT BE WHAT MY LAST RHEUMY SAID IT WAS THEN YOU FIGURE IT OUT YOU ARE THE ONE WITH THIS HUGE EXPENSIVE EDUCATION...

-Thanks for letting me scream for a minute :)

HI there,

I agree with the others.  Never ignore a fever.  I had a fever go up to 105 last year and it nearly put me in a coma.  Fevers are a true sign of an infection.  101 is a pretty good fever.  If it goes up to 103 I'd get to the ER.  Pronto. You might want to pack a bag, etc if it hits 102.  Just be ready.  Oh, are you taking Tylenol?  That is good for a fever.  Might help the headaches too!

Ginny,
This is the strange part I forgot to mention Neither Tylenol or Motrin will take this fever down below 99.5. The strangest part is at 3pm today I took some tylenol fever was 99.8 but really took Tylenol for the headache by 3:30pm fever rose to 101. I think that is why this fever bothers me more than fevers in the past.

Hmmmm, this is a cause for concern.  i wouldn't wait until Monday to talk to your doctor. Can you get to a walk in clinic tomorrow?  With the tylenol not working at all, that isn't good.  You have an infection somewhere that needs attention.  Are you throwing up? Diarrhea?  If it were me.... I would get to a doctor tomorrow.

I hope you have a better night tonight.  Let us know how you are doing okay,
