If I remember correctly, a vitamin D deficiency is from lack of sunlight. We need to avoid the sun with our diagnosis and also because of most of our meds so this is probably not uncommon. It is important to drink vvitamin D enriched milk and eat a healthy diet. Do you take a multi-vitamin?

Hopefully the others will have more info to help you!

Take care!
Prayers,
Audrey Ann

I do now, just started last week and I work outside. Because I work for the phone company...I have no choice. WebMD tells me for my age I am supposed to have 200IU per day. My doctor but me on a 50000IU capsule for the next 4 weeks.

Frank,

I hope the supplemental Vitamin D does the trick for you. You've got a lot on your plate and you need a vitamin deficiency like a hole in the head. Keep us posted.

Hey Frank,

Ya, that dose he gave you will really make you feel a lot better.  You'll have more energy.  Vitamin D is really important.  I take 1400mg every day.  200 just isn't enough.  I have been for 2 years now, and all of my seasonal affective disorder crap (SAD) has disappeared.  It really helps with mood.  Good thing you got that checked!

I wish sometimes that my doctors would just test my levels on everything again and start supplements to fix my deficencies. Last time I was deficent in everything tested and told to start a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.

Hi Frank:

I'm like you I've got a serious case of vitamin D deficiency. My doctor is have me take 100,000 IU capsules for the next 4 weeks. This will be my third weeks dose on Friday I've had no side effects at all. I hope yours clears up quickly. My number on the lab scale was only 7 and apparently 21 is the low end that's acceptable. Do you know what you're number is?

Hang in there we'll get through this one.

Hugs,
Barb

Well, my PCP has me going next friday for more blood work. Getting ready for a major check-up. I haven't been checked out in about 5yrs. This is a new PCP for me. My last one left last year and said that he would be back this year. Found out that he isn't caming back. So, I am taking this as a good thing....Kind of like in the phone company....they send me out when it seems that no one can repair in issue. A new pair of eyes can catch something different.

Take care

Frank,
My doc put me on 50,000 iu of Vitamin D for 8 weeks and it made such a differance in how I felt. I could not believe the improvement. My problem was once levels were normal she had me take just over the counter Vitamin D and it has never worked very well for me. If that happens to you make sure to let your doc know so he/she can keep a close eye on your vitamin D levels when you switch to OTC. Good Luck!!

Did anyone watch Oprah and Dr. Oz on Tuesday?  He had soooo much great information on living well.  You can go to Oprah.com and see Tuesday's show.

There is a great percentage of us who do have Vitamin D deficiencies.

I had my six month Rheumy appt last week and in July he is going to test me for a Vit D deficiency.  But I think I'm going to go ahead and get the supplements and start taking them.

One other thing Dr. Oz said when you take your multiple vitamin you should split in half.  Take one half in the morning and the other half in the evening.  It is absorbed much better throughout the day.  It was a great show hope you check it out.

Our weather was great on Sunday and I did sit in the shade for a bit, but I'm sure not nearly enough to make a difference, but I sure long for Spring weather.    Annie Rae scool

Hey guys. I take Zemplar which is a synthetic/man made form of vit d. Vitamin d helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphorus we have in our blood. My calcium and phosphorus are crazy because of long term chronic renal disease; which causes your parathyoid to over react! Isn't it how one thing snowballs into so many things? Judy

I'm taking 2400 IU of vitamin D daily, but haven't noticed too much of a change in how I feel with the lupus. Ginny, I'm glad to hear it helped your SAD. My son believes he suffers from SAD. I'll have to pass on the information and see if he can get some relief with the the vitamin D too.
